New Backhoe Bucket Modifications

Ok so I got a new Backhoe bucket for my BH77 backhoe BUT it’s for a B26 Kubota TLB so the ears are a little different. The pin on the back of the bucket is just fine and the correct size, however the top pin hole is to large and is in the wrong spot…¸O HIGH hard to see in the pic sorry!! I’m hoping someone out there has some pic of them modifying a bucket to work on a backhoe that it was not made for. When I got the bucket I got a great deal on it and just assumed that kubota backhoe buckets are all the same

Looks like "cut and weld".

Kubota has a few different interfaces. I'm sure the nitty-gritty is the way they work on the curl function. It might be a power thing, it might be a bucket meets dipper thing.

All you have to do is make new brackets with the bores of the correct size and location. Just copy what you have. Search my username, I've built buckets from scratch and documented what to do.

So after a lot of looking around, and getting measurement. I figuring out the geometry of the BH77 backhoe and the backhoe that is on the B26 TLB. I came up with a plan to modify the backhoe bucket to fit on my BH 77 just started last night. There has a few more problems than I thought there would be like the pins are different sizes, and in different places.

Sometimes a bargain isn't a real bargain after all. That bucket looks nothing like my B26, but I have the quick attach rather than pin on. That sure makes changing buckets fast and easy

Moving forward on making the bucket work!!!

1 3/8" hole saw

1" Sch 80 piping reamed out to 1" to fit the pin should be wleding it all in tonight. the Pin is .980"

Looking good. Its hard to make a template like that accurate. At least it has been for me. I hope it matches. You might want to mount the bucket on the bottom and put the pin in the sleeve before you weld it.

But I dont mean to doubt you. I'm just speaking from my experience in which I had trouble getting some things copied and lined up.

If it works for you first time, then I would like to know your secret.

The bucket is finished and works great, i check fit it before painting and all of the clearances are there, and full range of motion there is no problems with. The pins they are .015" bigger and work great in the new relocated smaller main pin hole.

I realize that from the last few pictures that it might seem as though I was just winging this, which could not be farther from the truth, i measured, and measured, and re measured. Checking everything with calipers, and ball mic's checking it on the tractor as I went. Also Im around welding quite a bit for my job so I have learned how to control the heat input when welding,

YouTube is also a great place to learn about controlling heat input to minimize the distortion.

Great job. I should not have doubted you a bit. But I wasn't sure how much experience you've had with this sort of thing. Obviously, a lot more than me. Thanks for posting.
