One last plug for my new (new to me) L3600. I just put a canopy on it yesterday. Well, geez, I've had it over a week now! Besides, it's hot here in Virginia. I got it from the local Kubota dealer and put it on myself (okay, I needed the wife to help hold it up). It's a nice size and covers the dash completely. For those of you following the other thread, yes I still have one front tire backwards. Notice that this photo is from the OTHER direction!

Tony, That looks pretty good, I see you took the picture this time on the tread that goes the right way/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif From a fellow Virginian.

Any issue with the canopy on the folding ROPS? Do you ever need to fold down the ROPS?

I do not have a folding ROPS and don't have any situations where I need one. They did ask me if it was a folding ROPS when I went to buy it.

TONY,
do you have any pics that show a better view of the grill guard?
if so could you post these, or e-mail me. i am still trying to get a
better look at these before i build one. would you be able to tell us
how much that canopy cost? does it add much to the overall height
of the rops?

I got one a few months ago for my 2910 and love it. It really helps for us fair skinned types. It cost about $380 from my local dealer and I installed it with no trouble. It's called a TracTop and is made by Firebird Fiberglass . I don't know if they sell direct. It's a very sturdy mount and I have no complaints. It does defeat the purpose of the folding ROPS, but I had the luxury of having my tractor before I built my barn so the doors are high enough to clear when the ROPS is up. To me, the real value of the folding ROPS is that it's taller so I don't crack my head on it all the time when backhoeing.

One word of caution, it took me all of about 30 minutes to snag the first overhead branch and put a crack in the fiberglass. I've banged it up more in subsequent encounters. You'd think I'd learn at some point in this process, but I'm still apparently on the uphill side of the curve.

Picture attached.

So you know why I've got a steel canopy instead of fiberglass./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I've just bent the edges of mine a little./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I paid $325.00 for the canopy. Depending on how you mount it, it will add as little as 3 to 4 inches to the heighth of the ROPS. That gave me claustrophobia so I jacked it up as high as it would go which added about a foot. I don't have any problems with parking it. The shed I park it in has about a 13 high entrance. It felt a lot more comfportable to sit under it with it higher. I'll take some good shots of the grill guard and how it mounts and e-mail them to you tomorrow.

Yours looks very similar to mine. I like it because it is long enough to keep the dash good and dry if I'm out in the rain working. I don't have a folding ROPS. I didn't know they were taller. I don't have a backhoe but I still wish it were taller. It's just barely high enough to save my butt if I ever roll it (no immediate plans to do that!). I know what you mean about the trees. I snagged mine inside of 30 minutes too but they were small branches and no damage. I also notices that it acts like a funnel when branches get under it, making SURE they hit you in the head! It is kind of annoying in a way, actually. But with the sun here, I can be out a WHOLE lot longer working under cover so it's worth the trouble. I am also just getting used to having a FEL. I have used them before but not a lot. Using it is fine, but I found when I bush hog I forget it's there. I had a fight with a white oak the other day and lost. Fortunately I was in close quarters so I was going slow. Watching out for the canopy and the FEL is getting mentally exhausting! I guess I'll get used to them soon.

bird,
where did you get a steel canopy? tell us the details.
i have a problem with clearence under my leanto. i have
about 2inches near the outside, so i have to stay over
toward the center, when i park my tractor, and a canopy
might add too much to the overall to clear even in the center.
