Picked her up last Friday. Finally got to use it for the first time last evening. The height adjusting roller was set on the lowest setting from the factory so I figured I'd see how that worked before I adjusted it. Made for a darned efficient dethatcher since the blades cut into the ground about a half inch!!!
Before I could use it I had to move the tph assembly to the middle position so that the left side of the mower lined up with the outside of the left side tires. The pto drive shaft was six inches too long so I had to shorten it. IslandTractor was kind enough to mail his extra "anti grease burp fitting" to me and I installed it before I fired it up. Thanks IslandTractor!!! Hopefully I can either return the favor or pay it forward one day.
The flail runs very smoothly and doesn't make an excess of noise. Couple that with the eHydro tranny on my 3038e and I can cut my yard in a snap. I am most pleased that it wont take me five hours or more to cut my little slice of Heaven.
One "problem" however: The 3038e has a brake inside the PTO assembly that holds the PTO shaft tight when the PTO is not engaged. I'm used to PTO shafts that you can turn easily by hand to line up the splines with the implement drive shaft. Since I couldn't turn either the tractor PTO shaft or the implement drive shaft by hand to line them up, I had to use a crowbar on the implement universal joint to turn the implement shaft to line up the splines. That is a real PITA!!! Do any of you folks have a Better Way?
