Got a new one to be delivered this Saturday. $1440 brand new which was based on a price match with Lowes (they're blowing-out their '05 models but the dealer didn't ask about the year and I didn't tell). /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

So, what can I expect with this bad boy? Lot of years of reliable service? Total disaster? What's the concensus? Did a search here and see there has been some trouble here and there. Anyone have comments about the reliability of recently manufactured units?

I have a small yard (around .4 acres) that takes an hour and a half to mow with a walk-behind. I'm hoping that this tractor will save me time, which is my most valuable asset right now.

Welcome aboard! The CC 1042 is a good machine for the money. If your property is fairly smooth, you keep the deck from riding on the ground and you don't overload the hydro, you'll get a lot of years out of it w/ reasonable maintenance. Out of all the machines in this price range (sears, all the MTD variants, JD 100's) I'd choose a CC or JD 100 series due to foot controlled hydro. Once you go foot control for a grass cutter, it's tough to go back to a gear stick or hand hydro.

I'm not one who likes too many of the new lawn and garden tractors made now, nowhere near the heftiness of the classics... but.. of all that is out there new, MTD Cub Cadets are still definitely at the top of the list of mowers I would consider if I HAD to buy a new one /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif They are decent machines spec'ed with the best components for each model in its price range.

Time being your greatest consideration, that new Cub is going to save you a LOT of that over the walk mower Pappy! You'll get that half acre done in no time at all. If you remember to take an afternoon at the end of the mowing season to clean up and maintain your new baby by the book, it should serve you well with that acreage for 10+ years or many more! Have fun!
