I guess it is about time I become acquainted with this board. My name is Dale Canning and I own Meadowbrook Equipment in Eddington, Maine. I have been a Century dealer for about a month now. I am very impressed with the product, the company, and people who represent the product. It has been very well received by the people who have been shopping for a CUT and I am excited about this great product.

welcome aboard, I have a 3045 and I tell everyone I see how great this tractor is. I'm sure that as more dealers and customers use these tractors they will be one of the top tractors out there

Ditto Leaddog!

Chipperman has probably told you about me. I probably have the first Century in Maine. My 3045 is one beast of a machine and I LOVE it! Good luck with the dealership.

I have been a "lurker," reading TractorbyNet for 3 months or more now, but you have pushed me over the edge and I've signed up tonight!

I currently live on an acre in Chelsea, Maine. My wife and I have recently purchased a 19 acre wooded lot in Readfield, ME, upon which we hope to build next year. I have rented a JD 310 loader-backhoe for some stump and rock clearing, then a JD 450 dozer for hauling off stumps and smoothing up. I still have a bit of ditching to do before getting gravel hauled for my 340 foot driveway.

I expect that I have a lifetime project, making my 19 acres into a park-like environment with trails, etc. I need a tractor!

I grew up farming, then working summers in construction until I got educated and became a Civil Engineer/Computer Support Manager. I still love to run equipment.

In my research in TractorbyNet and other sources, I have come to the conclusion that Century is the brand that I am most interested in if I buy new. I am interested in either the 2535 or the 3035 with a C50 loader. I would also like to get the backhoe as well.

I have been very impressed with how Chipperman has responded to questions on this forum and has contributed to the body of knowledge without being a "pushy" salesman.

I have seen Meadowbrook's ads in the Uncle Henry's magazine. One night in August, when returning a visiting consultant to an Augusta motel after dinner, I saw your pickup with a Century loader/backhoe setup on a trailer behind. If it hadn't been after dark and raining cats and dogs at the time, I would have checked the thing out right then. My schedule has been a little hectic lately, but I do intend to get up to your place this fall to look the Centurys over.

Before you get too excited, I must advise that we need to figure out how we are going to pay for the house before I will be buying that tractor. However, I will definitely be buying a tractor sometime and it may end up being a Century.

I'm glad Meadowbrook is on the forum. I look forward to learning more from you, and from the rest of the gang here.

Now for a question. I've read the specs from Century's web site and Rivera's excellent site. Can you enlightem me a little more about the differences between the 2535 and the 3035? What's the approximate price difference?

Dennis

Welcome to TBN As you have already discovered this is a great site. Sounds like you have your work cut out for yourself. I am sure when you are ready you will find the Century tractor and excellent value. In regard to your question about the difference between the 2535 and the 3035 they are as follows. The 3035 has draft control and the 2535 does not. The 3035 appears to use many of the same components as the 2535. The 2535 is slightly shorter, narrower and lower. The 3035 will except our new 9 foot back hoe the will be available next month. I will say with the size of your lot and the amount of work it sounds like you will be doing you should probably think seriously about 3035 or 3040. Dale at Meadowbrook is a great guy and I am sure you would find him a pleasure to do business with him. I try not to get involved with how the dealers price the tractors so I would suggest you contact Dale at Meadowbrook for that. I will say that you will find moving up to the 3035 from the 2535 is relatively painless. I have got to go for now but if you have any questions please post them or P/M me and I will help you how ever I can regardless to what you ultimately buy.
Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PS: P/M me with your contact info and I will get you a brochure on the tractors.

Today, I visited Meadowbrook Equipment for the first time. The proprietor, Dale Canning, is very friendly and knowledgeable. He has a very small dealership. A customer definitely will not be ignored at his place! Dale and I looked over a 3040 and a 2535 very closely and discussed them very thoroughly. I drove both. Meadowbrook's steep driveway provided a good opportunity to check the handling and braking of the tractors on a hill. By the time I left, I felt I had made a new friend and I want a Century tractor!

I'll add a couple of notes about my impression of the Century tractors. I liked the synchronized 4-speed main transmission very much. I tried shifting it on the go, both uphill and down, upshifting and downshifting, and it worked great. The synchronized shuttle shift also worked well. I like the layout of the tractors and the C-50 loader joystick is well placed. In my opinion, these are very ergonomic tractors. The only problem I noted was that I had a tendency to misplace my size 13 shoe and hit the brake and the foot throttle at the same time. After a bit of practice, I was getting used to the arrangement and didn't have any further trouble with it. The brakes seemed quite strong. I like that.

I liked the C-50 loader, though I didn't really use it (other than run it up and down empty) in my brief test. It looks like it will come off and go on very easily as advertised. The quick bucket attach is a plus, as I am also interested in a pallet fork, and possibly a snowplow.

Dale showed me the backhoe and subframe that Century uses. It looks like a very rugged setup, that would be easy to attach and detach.

I drove the 3040 first and liked it a lot. Afterward, I drove the 2535. Being a little smaller, it may be a bit more maneuverable. Perhaps I was also starting to get "in the groove" with the Century's by then, but I sure had fun running the 2535 around. You couldn't go wrong with either tractor. In my case, I might opt for the 3035 because I could later add the 9 ft hoe that's coming out.

I'm already scheming and dreaming to figure out how soon I can take on a tractor payment!

I agree with you Dennis on the features on the Centurys. Hard to beat feature for feature with other brands and prices. The 3040 and 2535 are both great tractors. Depending on your individual needs. The 2535 will fit in tighter places but the 3040 definitely has a beefy feel for big jobs or adding a heavy hoe on the back. You would be well pleased with either machine. I'm glad you had a good experience at your local dealer. I too am on the smaller end of the dealer scale and yes, it does allow more one on one with my customers. I usually get to know them more than a person would think making a tractor deal. Glad you had fun driving them around, let us know which one you decide on.
