I finally started to fix up the Super A to sell. I'm putting in a new clutch/pressure plate. I got the thing split and apart and discovered that the throw out bearing is different than the new one I have. The one that is on the tractor has two grease zerks and instead of a bearing it has some kind of plastic/phenelic resin thing that rides on the pressure plate fingers. The new throw out bearing is just that, a bearing. No housing or anything. Did I get the wrong part or is there an updated throw out bearing assembly? I would prefer to have the bearing instead of the plastic thing.

Also, when I split the thing I had to drain the hydraulic touch control system. The fluid was very clean, but I don't know what kind of fluid it was. My manual says to use "Touch Control Fluid" but it must be some kind of standard oil of some sort. Any guesses or answers out there would be greatly appreciated. The oil seems about as thick as engine oil, but has a slight smell of power steering or hydraulic fluid.

Thanks for your help!

I'd put any utf fluid back in there that met CNH specs. Can't help you specififcally with your throwout bearing.. but I have seen a couple tractor designs that get updated bushing-to-bearing setups like that... etc.

Powerline,...You've got the right part. The originals were graphite "bearings". Gee, they were only meant to last about 50 or so years....imagine the shortsightedness of the manufacturers.....(LOL). The new replacement throw outs are bearings...just grease em up and shuck it in there...It'l run another 50 or so years....As far as the hyd fluid: Use IH HY-Tran, or a substitute that meets spec (there are bunch out there). I'm hoping once you get it back together you'll think: "Hey, I should keep this one!" good luck. BobG in VA

Thanks for the input. It is really appreciated and helpful.

I found out that I need to get an updated throwout bearing carrier. The part number (an International number) is 6116D for those that run across the same problem. It's not cheap, but can still be had new or used.

I really want to keep the Super A, but I need a tractor that has the modern features like four wheel drive, diff lock, diesel, ect. I'm enjoying working on it at least. The generator is getting overhauled as I write this and I've got numerous small parts on order (sediment bowl packing, carb kit, ect).

I used to swear up and down I'd never own anything green with two cylinders and look what I have- A green, 2 cylinder Yanmar diesel. LOL!!! I'll bet when I bought it my Grandad turned in his grave...twice.
