Hello all. I'm new to this forum as I just purchased a used 2186 Cub. This is a replacement for my 29 year old Craftsman tractor. I haven't really used it yet because I'm doing somewhat of a restoration on it. The tractor runs very well and I like the idea of the direct drive transmission as well as the foot pedal controls. I do have a slight complication with the mowing deck and would ask this forum for some help. This tractor originally came with a 48 inch deck (I won't bore you with the reasons the seller gave me about this) but I bought it with a 46 inch deck that was not originally ever set up for this model. The deck was "jury-rigged" to work and I knew about this issue but got the rig for what I considered a good price. Part of the "jury-rigging" involved hooking up the PTO belt without an idler. I have the manuals, both user and parts, for the tractor and can see that the double pulley on the original 48 inch deck is spring loaded to act as an idler. On the 46 inch deck the double pulley is fastened directly to the deck. I've made a lot of things out of metal and am confident I can fabricate whatever I need but I'm one of those people that have trouble looking at those parts assembly drawings and trying to relate them to the real world. So what I'm asking is if anyone out there has this 48 inch deck, which is think is called a 301, I would appreciate them posting a couple of pictures of it so I can better understand how the PTO drive system works.
Thanks,
JohnZ
