Rotary Cutter New Cutter

I'm new here to this forum, i just inherited a '77 Massey 245 and need a new bush hog, I'm looking for a good product. I have maybe 2"-3" sapplings that I may encounter every now and again, I really can't make up my mind. I would appreciate the help

What's you budget? You're probably looking for a 6' but may get by with bigger. If you do feel you can handle bigger skip a 7' and get a dual spindle 8'.

If money is no object look at Brown cutters. Next step is Woods, Land Pride, or Bush Hog brands... but each of these have different "grades" of mower at different price points. Even cheaper is King Cutter, but I don't think they have anything for 2-3" saplings. (Actually now that I re-read this and thought about the sapling thing, I wouldn't go any bigger than 6')

Yes, I forgot about Rhino.

Any of those brands are good, pick the one that has a dealer near you so you can easily get parts.

To the forum from Alabama. I have a Land Pride RCR1860 and there are times when I wish I had gone even heavier duty like a 2060 or even a 2760.

When saplings get up to 3" I cut them with a chainsaw, then pull out the roots when the soil is moist during winter, with a chain attached to my FEL.

Often stumps and attached trunk stubs require some loosening by being nudged around with the bucket before extraction.



A specialized Brown Treecutter will allow you to cut 3"-4"-5" saplings but they are pretty expensive @ $8,000 and up.

Pretty much what everyone else said, we've used several brands and now primarily use Woods and Land Pride due to quality and dealer availability at the time of purchase; would certainly consider the other brands mentioned. We've cut a lot of saplings in the 3" range with the occasionally bigger ones, but what a racket and our cutters have held up really well, I'm sure comparable models by other manufacturers would do the same.

I had a MF240D, 4WD and it easily handled a 7' brush hog.

i went around w/ a 15' bush hog and cut a bunch of 2-3" trees. Now I have a bunch of 3" 'stumps' sticking out all over AND the mess of the trees .. so now I have to cut all that out and pick up all the mess..

it'd been easier to just chainsaw them and throw them on a hay wagon.
