My 21-month-old daughter Elsie is nuts about tractors, so she's getting a lot of tractor gifts this year. I gave her one early, since I knew she'd get a lot of use out of it:

This is a 12V powered tractor made by Peg Perego, and it's real nice. They make a smaller and slower 6V model more appropriate to Elsie's age group, but she's tall for her age and we decided the next model up was a better fit as she gets bigger. It lets you lock out 2nd gear, so the only speed available right now is the same as the smaller model. I made one modification to the go pedal, to reduce the amount of effort needed to press it down and give it more travel:

This is a very perceptive little girl who is particular about her toys, so I made sure that pedal looked real and used some spare Deere yellow paint I had to give it the right look (many months ago I tacked a makeshift bumper on to her walker cart, and she got real pissed, so I learned I have to step up my game when modifying toys).
I plan to do one more modification, to add a safety switch to the seat (kind of surprised it doesn't come with one).
So far Elsie loves it, and cackles with laughter when driving around. She's especially amused with the gear lever, which lets you go from forward to reverse in a snap, for loads of fun and giggles. She hasn't quite got the hang of steering, so we get her out on the large lawn and cock the wheel so she goes in circles while we supervise.
The tractor came with a little front loader which I will put on once she's older. They also make a little matching cart. I am thinking that with Elsie's urge to always help Da-da, I can probably get some work out of her and the little Deere in the future....
