Hopefully this link will get through. This is an article on the new EPA rules for off road diesel engines including tractors. Looks like by 2008 we will have very different engines on tractors and the fuel will change also.

I maet a fella that is making bio diesel now. Hes got 2 Cat excavators and a loader and a TC24 New Holland running off i think soybean oil. It works good just smells like a fry cooker. He cant run it on the roads as its non taxed the MS govt. may sell him a permit for his trucks to run on it in MS. I dont think the lower sulphur in engines will hurt the old machines but the price will probably go up on it. Ive run alot of hour on scrapers and dozers on taxed road fuel with low sulphur with no problems at all.

In California, we have had low sulfur diesel, diesel with 500 or less parts per million/weight since 1993. The new regulations won't require that until 2007. It was a big deal at first with a few folks crying about the lack of sulfur lubrication, you never hear about it anymore.

What are the National limts now? I know I've been using low sulfur for years on the road. In fact it's even dyed a different color than offroad. I also know that on the left coast, on road diesels like a powerstroke, have catalytic converters on them. Is that why they burn the even lower sulfur fuel?
