New Diverter installed. Grapple won't open

Hey folks, I'm new at hydraulics. Just installed Summit Diverter valve to operate a new MTL grapple.

I pre-filled the lines and the diverter valve when I was hooking things up to try and minimize any air in the lines.

When I hook up the grapple, and operate the curl functions with the diverter button pressed, the grapple isn't opening. I can see the hoses move going to the grapple, but the grapple won't open. I believe I plumbed it so that curl opens the grapple, and dump closes it. Curl/Dump circuit still operates normally when the diverter isn't activated. Any ideas on what I should try for trouble shooting this?

Disconnect / reconnect grapple couplers, if not fully seated oil won't flow. Assuming couplers are properly matched (designed to work together)

Your tractor should have regen on the loader valve, if it has 2 positions for the bucket dump in the loader valve, try pushing it to the second position with the diverted engaged.
If the grapple works then you need to reverse the hoses going to it.

If you don't have 2 positions for the bucket dump then just reverse the hoses to the grapple and see if that works.

I can't tell from your pics what's connected where - I know from experience that your symptoms can be caused by having the diverter's pressure INPUT and the PRIMARY output swapped - with the diverter mounted as shown, the feed from loader controls CURL curcuit should be entering the TOP pair of ports, and the curl cylinders should come from the BOTTOM pair of ports - if those two are reversed, actuating the diverter will just DEADHEAD the hydraulics.

When the diverter is NOT energized, the THROUGH path (bottom to top) doesn't CARE which is which, that'd allow your curl to work... Steve

TMGT - I’ll try pushing the dump function to the second position.

i7 - The QConnects on the tractor have cone shaped bits inside, where they seal. The QCs on the grapple have balls inside. Are these types compatible?

I'd say yes if they are the same series. Pioneer most common in my area.

It could just be the pic but it appears the coupling on the right is not seated all the way and the coupling on the left is odd, it appears to have a very long slip collar. maybe a take a couple of close up pics of the couplings from different angles and post here.

Also the ISO poppet type valves are not usually compatible with the Agricultural type ball type. MTL ships with flat face or AG ball type. I had to change mine to the ISO poppet type.

, first time I hooked the hoses up wrong I was scratching my head also. Now I have it setup so they can't be swaped.
