I have a new DK40 which has a mechanical 4WD lever switch. How hard should it be to operate? I just cannot get it in or out. Should it be soooooooo difficult?

I have the same problem with my DK 35. The best way is just lifting the front end with the loader-then trying to move the 4 wheel drive lever.

The 4 WD on my DK 35 always goes in and out of gear very easy.
I seldon even stop or slow down to engage or disengage. I just give a blip on the throttle peddle while pushing/pulling on the 4 WD lever and it goes right in/out..

Just turn your steering wheel to the left while you pull the lever, it should pop right in... ;)

I had the same problem on my CK25, I lubed the linkage and it worked better but is still a little stiff.

Depending on the tractor all of the things above can work. Another thing to do would be to move the lever as you backup a couple of feet. It relieves the wind up of the drive train to let it come out of gear. Also, Check your tire pressure. If it is off, it can effect the windup.

I bought a new DK 35 about a month ago and had the same problem. Couldn't even move the lever at all! The mechanic came out and sprayed the linkages to the transmission with some lube, used a wrench to get the linkage moving and it has worked fine ever since . He said that they get stuck while they are being shipped and have to be broken free sometimes. I sprayed the linkage a couple more times and moved it in and out of 4WD - - no problems.

Good luck with yours,

Reggie

Called out the dealer, but got it working before he arrived. It's certainly not convenient after being used to a push-button. Not sure if the tractor needs to come to a stop before operating it (the push button version could be switched in/out at any time).
