The latest chapter of my house renovation/addition was putting in my new underground electric service. The old service was fed overhead from across the street. My utility co. put a pole in at the corner of my property, I had to trench from pole to house and lay conduit and pull in 2/0 copper wire to the meter pan.

Around here everyone is overly concerned about separation between the primary and communication cables (Annoying 60-cycle hum). Personally, I have never had an issue, but I have also been pretty careful about maintaining a good separation.....

trech is 2foot give or take in most spots but after finish grade it will definately be well over 2'.

around here any new houseing development is joint trench, you've got 13kv primary & 120/240v service wire, gas main, phone and cable all in the same trench and usually criscross or touch each other at some point.

looks good, i got about 150' of my 1000' or so conduit run last fall.....

the neighbor let me cross his property to get to a pole...i jumped quickly to get it across my property line just in case he moved, died or changed his mind......

worked out great, so far.....

what size are the two smaller pcs. of conduit? i ran two 3/4" lines in about a foot above my electrical run.......i should have bought the 1"......but i was too cheap and now i'm kicking myself.....

The electric conduit is 3", the other 2 are 1-1/4" for phone and cable.
Is your run 1000' long? If so, are you putting in a hand hole or two for pulling.

I ran 3" pipe for the power and 2" pipe each for cable and phone. Specs here call for the trench to be 4' deep with a sand base, no large rocks and 12" of sand on top of the conduit. Also the sweeps had to be galv metal pipe. My run was 185'.

I don't think running primary in the same ditch with other lines is code anywhere, and should be buried at least 3 ft deep. I install most primary 4 ft deep in a separate trench and depending on where it is lay in about 6" of red concrete on top for protection.

mine is 2" with a 3" long sweep.......the electric guy said it all looked good and never told me to put pull boxes in......

shoot, i wish i had run larger for the phone and cable, now.....i guess i can put a pull box in for them and use a reducing coupling to go larger the rest of the way up.......
