I know this is a little general but in terms of pushing/pulling power how does a modern compact tractor in the 24-35hp range compare to the old Ford 8n/ Ferguson To- tractors?
More specifically I have a TO-30 right now with a loader that I use with a snowblower to remove snow, I also plow/disc the garden with it, clean out a horse pasture using a back blade, and other stuff. Other stuff including in the past pushing over smaller trees to clear land. The tractor needs some major work and I want an upgrade.. something with more traction(power seems not to be an issue as much as putting it on the ground). I'd also like the ability to unload a small.. about 800# round bale from a pickup although I won't do that often.
I've looked at some compacts as a replacement.. most recently a used Ford 1920 and before that a Mahindra 3616. By the numbers they have as much or more power, gobs more lift capacity but they just look so darn small when I'm checking them out at the dealer that I just don't feel confident.
Then too I got to push some snow around with the Mahindra.. even in 4wd it couldn't push a pile of snow that I feel confident my Ferguson would handle.. and with a wider bucket. Then again my Ferguson would have had tire chains, ballasted tires, and a heavy snowblower on the back helping it which the Mahindra didn't have the advantage of.
I'm worried I'll buy something new, put it up against the same job I asked my old tractor to do and be disappointed. Are my concerns justified? I'm waiting on a dealer to get back to me on a price for a loader on the Ford 1920... not sure which way I should go. Also thinking of a Mahindra 3535 or 4035 but that's new and a lot more $
