Jinma 204
I am waiting for a fan for my Jinman 204 - my old one fell apart - (the branch wedged up may have helped). My question is there only one way for the new one to go on? I should have paid more attention when I took the old one of, but I didn't.
Thanks
John

Have a helper crank the engine while you watch the fan blade turn. It should draw the air through the radiator and blow it back towards the back of the tractor.

If there were shrouds covering the sides of the engine I would strongly recommend a pusher fan for severe dusty conditions, but I don't believe that is an option for these tractors. The fan will be correct even if you manage to put it on backwards. To change the direction of airflow you either have to run the engine backwards or reverse the pitch of the fan blades, of which neither of those are going to happen. :)

Thanks Bob - your answer makes perfect sense - does that mean it would blow the wrong way if I was in reverse - just kidding of course -
cheers

Several years ago I stalled (almost) the Kama and she started running backwards! Nothing worked (no hydraulics) and I couldn't figure out what happened until I checked under the hood and realized it was dieseling in reverse.
LOL ... But the darn thing ran like that for a few minutes before I shut it down!

Well there you go Chris, I was wrong again in making broad sweeping statements.
I actually do know that diesel engines will run (temporarily) in reverse rotation, especially two-cycle, which are prone to that behavior.

When I was a test driver for PACCAR years ago, we were performing split traction coefficient tests at 40 mph. I did a perfect 180ー skid (accidentally) in a 359 Pete bobtail with a 12V-71; killed the engine and started in reverse. Strangest feeling when you know you're in 3rd-over but traveling backwards at 40 mph under power.

John,
I see you're in Oregon. The PACCAR test track used to be in Madras at the old B-25 airstrip.

Hey Bob.
We often horse camp over Madras way and have ridden around the area of the test track. It has been a struggle to find a fan, but fortunatley tommy at Affordable has it in stock for my 290 = hopefully it will get here tomorrow night - if not it will be the second weekend without the tractor - I had no idea how much I used it until it wasn't there - man I even had to put air in the wheelbarrow tire :(
