New Finish Mower needed, need everyone\'s opinions
I sold my Rhino 40hp tractor and along with it went my 72" King Kutter finishing mower. I mow about 2.5 acres and need to find me a new mower. I have a new LG Montana 4540 (45 hp) tractor, so I think I can run any of the finishing mowers without a problem.
I'm not totally against King Kutter mowers, but it had a couple things I didn't like. The belt would slip way before it put a load on the tractor and it didn't take too heavy/tall of grass to make it slip. Yes it was adjusted right. Also I ended up knocking the side chute off, so I think I want a rear discharge mower next time. My final gripe is the blades didn't seem to overlap enough. After just a few blade sharpenings and use, it would leave stripes, especially in tall grass.
I've considered getting a ZTR type mower in 60" or bigger. I'm sure it would be the best setup, but mega $$$ from what I've researched so far. New would be near $7k and I hate to spend that much on mowing my 2.5 acres of grass. If I did this for a living, I could justify the cost, but I don't plan on mowing for a living.
I've read some on here about First Choice mowers. I know Woods, Land Pride, and Bush Hog make nice finishing mowers from what I've read also. Cost is a major deciding factor for me. I see you can get a First Choice 72" finishing mower for about $1,400. Most other name brands I've priced in that size are near $2k or more. I'm not too picky about paint, fit and finish, just want something that mows good, doesn't leave strips, and will mow taller grass without slipping the belt(s), using more of the tractors power. I have a brush hog and will use it for the nasty tall stuff, I'm just talking taller grass, like when your a week late mowing the lawn.
Any suggestions?
What do you think of First Choice mowers? I have been reading about them, but none local.
What do you think of the mower you own and use?
What's the best value in finish mowers?
Thanks for you help!
