Why does the paint fade so badly in the first place? You don't see many pink cars (formerly red cars) driving around on area roads at least not in Michigan. Even the ones that have rusted into oblivion at the salvage yard are still red for the most part.

Cheap paint I guess. :confused3:

It most likely has silicone in it. Which is fine if you never have to repaint. I suspect rather than cheap paint the culprit is owners who don't take the 10 minutes to apply spray on wax after washing it. When I don't have time to use paste wax that's what I use. My tractor is a 2010 and I wanted it to have some paint left when it was paid for so I apply wax every time I wash it. It only takes a few minutes and the result is the paint still looks new.

Before I built a shed to put it in I had a cover I put over it because orange/red paint is notorious for fading if left in the weather day after day. Anyway, that's my take on it. YMMV.

Somehow waxing a tractor seems just so wrong. Hose them of occasionally, pressure wash once or twice per year. They work just as well with a bit of patina.

Although sitting baking in the hot sun all the time is cruel, so during downtime it is nice to keep them under cover as much for the plastic and rubber parts as the paint.

My 2005, 2615 has not faded, but the loader and backhoe have. However, they aren't the same paint, as the loader and hoe are powder coated, I believe.

I think the reason my paint looks so good is due to waxing. I even wax the underside of the hood. I use spray-on lemon furniture polish; same as I do on my 1995 Tbird.

I stripped my tractor down and put a good coat of wax on it within a few days of it being delivered to my humble abode. I am looking at buying another Mahindra for winter use, and it will get the same loving treatment. I actually grease and change fluids/filter on a regular basis. Just like I actually care for my vehicles... :)

I confess,

I've used Lemon pledge on my motorcycle and occasional wax also. Every year or so I'll even wax my 600hp 03 Cobra.
I used wax more frequently when I was much younger.
I may not maintain my stuff by the book, but never have I had any issue due to lack of maintenance. I go through cases of grease.

Red paint fades like crazy, though now almost any car has a clear coat over the paint to stop UV from fading it into oblivion. Can't say whether tractor manufacturers employ clear coats or not. Waxing would help deter the fading by giving a reflective and possibly UV resistant reflective coating over the paint....

One of the Mahindra penny wise/ pound foolish decisions on designing the MAX 28 was to use a single coat paint system. It is some type of brittle hard enamel painted over clean steel, no primer or clear coat. I know this as I chipped / peeled a bunch of paint when I was installing my small tool box behind the seat. (Spray bomb time!)

My 2005 L39 on the other has a white primer below it's Kubota orange and the paint will generally will wear off down to bear metal before it chips or peels The orange paint has faded a bit, as it is a good quality paint and It does not bake in the sun while not in use (at least most of the time).
