Welcome to TBN, I have a lot of family in your area, Eastover and South part of Columbia.
My brother in law was career army, and was stationed at Ft. Jackson when he retired. By then, they had put down roots in the area.
We go to visit occasionally, and have vacationed a few times in Sunset Beach N. C. ... nice area.

No you haven't seen me on live pd. I'm in Lexington county I try to avoid Richland county like the plague. That's one reason Richland county has gotten so bad. They just slap people on the risk and let them go.

Soil type?? You mean there is more than just dirty sand here??

We have slick red clay up here. Much different to till, dig, or drive on than the sand below the fall line.

We had that red clay out in Oklahoma.. Here its like living on the beach, only sand.. we even find sea shells on occasion!

Makes for easy digging, but lousy growing!

You're probably finding those sea shells because you're below the "fall line". The lower part of the state was covered by the ocean in another time period. In my youth we didn't have to worry about deer in the road, in my part of the upstate, there were none. I've never seen a rattle snake here and only a couple of alligators. These critters were and I guess still are fairly common in parts of the "low country". The wildlife people trucked deer in around 1960 and I've accidentally killed one in each of the last couple of years. They create a lot of business for SC body shops. Hopefully no one be seeding any snakes or gators.

I've seen only 2 rattlers and no gators either, now moccasins , that's a different story!! I probably dispatch 4-5 a year, and see a lot more than that. Plenty of deer, albeit small ones and pigs.. they tend to come and go.
