I have been seriously looking and informing myself about tractors for the last 2 months and the TBN website has been a wealth of information. While my lot is only 1-1/2 acres, it takes me 6 hours to dig out after a big snow. Our driveway is straight up and our wooded lot is littered with broken trees! We own a rental property that must be re-graded to promote proper drainage and our driveway needs work. I decided it was finally time for a machine that could tackle all of those tasks.
I am buying a 1997 Kubota 4WD L3600-GST with a Bush Hog QT2345 FEL with a 60-inch bucket. It has 1500 hours on it and I am having the dealer add a 60" 4N1 bucket and a set of pallet forks. The FEL is rated to lift about 1200 lbs payload as installed and it has re-packed cylinders. I feel good about the tractor as the dealer sold it new, and re-sold it used, and is now selling it to me. The price of the tractor is about $13k plus the new 4N1 bucket and pallet forks brings it to about $16K complete.
The first 3PH attachement I intend to acquire is a United 672HD 6' Box scraper. The kubota dealer in Culpeper has a new one for $595.
I know you all know a lot more than me about tractors, but I did grow up on a farm (a rareity these days) and we had an IH UT350 and an IH UT300 for use on our apple orchard on the side of a mountain. One of our close friends had an 8N, and another had a Ford 3000 and a Ford 4000. All these were used in the woods and on un-even ground with good results. I spent many an hour chasing after them and watching them work as a youngster.
I am figuring that this tractor will serve me well for a multitude of tasks and will be able to negotiate steep grades well while using the FEL and attachements. I have recieved a ton of information from this website, as well as asking for advice from friends who know more than me. I think I am ready to become a tractor guy! Thank you for your help!
