After looking for a deal for a heavy 48" box blade for the concrete like clay around here for a considerable amount of time, scored on a brand new frontier box blade held over from last year, including the price from last year before they went up considerably:thumbsup: I got one #ell of a deere dealer here, they could have just hosed me for current price but did not. The price on this BB2048 was cheaper than on the lighter built, this years model BB1048 box. Glad I held off on buying it last year!!!:D After looking around for a heavy 48" box blade, this frontier model the BB2048, is about the heaviest there is for a 48" andnd have a striking resemblance to woods box blade.

Curious but why did you want a 4ft instead of the 5ft? At least, most folks I know of would prefer a 5ft BB for a 30hp + tractor, especially one with ag tires and 4x4. Maybe you have a narrow door or gate to get through?

Well kebo, in the tree farm is were the box will dwell most of its life. Every tree planted is planted on 8x8 foot rows, some of which on hills and draws. A box blade of slim build is necessary few years after the trees have grown and occupy more of the 8 foot rows to help manage the erosion issues with the clean cultivation needed to grow good, full ornamental and reclamation trees. Flat ground is best for such crops, but Im not blessed with totally flat real estate. Plus, the geo-jute cloth I lay down in bad erosion spots comes in four foot width. A 48" box scraper is a perfect match to make a good flat bottomed bed for the jute cloth. Another reason for only a 48 incher is after the spade has dug select trees from a field I can maneuver WAY better around trees that are left to fill the holes left by the spade where there once was a tree. Much better than with a 54 or 60 inch box.

As far as wear'n paint off it, I have done just that. I have buried over 100 some odd spade holes and some ditch building. Still have lots more to go, I will have some pics of the paint wore off and some of the work done that has lead to the paint removing. May be a day or so though, half to finish planting 2,800 seedlings while the weather holds.

Well here is a sample of what the new 48" box gets used for. The "before" picture of the holes left between trees from the tree spade and then the "after" 3 back and forth passes with the box blade. Put about 5 busy hours all together on the box blade today burying holes, fixing washes and ripping some new ground. Took a hiatus from planting seedlings, only 600 left thankfully, to catch up on other things... Mostly to to use the brand new box blade:D OH.... third pic is of the paint worn off:thumbsup:

I had a suspicion that you went for a 4ft BB for a specific reason, that's why I asked. It all makes perfect sense. Looks like the new BB is working well for you too!
