Merry Christmas (or happy holidays)

I'm just looking out at a gas can now. It's in a place where the rain is hitting empty can. Everytime I use an old plastic can I think of those tin or metal, dented, rusty old leakers we used over the years. I have even heard plastic is safer than metal cans. To me the "new' cans are the plastic ones. The best thing since sliced bread.

Cheers....Coffeeman

Hey, be nice now. I like my old tin or metal, dented, rusty old leakers we used over the years. I still have quite a few of the old 1 and 2 gallon oil cans with the gas spout on them. For being 50+ years old they still work quite well.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a joyful New Year!!!

Its getting harder and harder to find metal gas can in our area.
I like the metal can better, for if there pressure built up the metal gas can doesn't bow than tip over, plus object like piece of wood etc..won't punch hole as quick as plastic...but than again full plastic "can" doesn't hurt if your swtiching from one hand to the other while walk. ;)

Industrial quality metal cans for dispensing flamable liquids are still available in the form of OSHA & FM approved 1, 2 & 5 gallon terne plated safety cans from places like Lab Safety Supply & Forestry Suppliers but you may not like the price.

I followed a previous TBN thread & bought plastic military fuel cans with walls about 1/4 inch thick that survive dropping from copters & have available spring loaded CARB compliant and/or straight through military flex spouts. These are Scepter brand made in Canada for the US military if you want to goggle them. You probably won't like their price either but I think that they should last forever.

I vote for CHRISTmas

They maybe better, but be careful & don't leave them in /under your house .I have been on several house fires that were caused by the plastic gasoline containers splitting at the seam on the bottom & the gasoline vapors reaching an ignition source.Remember, Gasoline vapors are heaver than air & will stay close to the ground like propane.

And if your fuel fill is on the top of your tractor and you want a really spiffy metal gas can check out this little baby with a tap in the bottom. Don't get much easier than that. Set the can on the hood and hold the valve open.

Awfully proud of those little red gas cans, aren't they?

I had one of the plastic cans, but just (in my view) traded up to a metal can. The metal cans just seem more substantial to me. Probably a little nostalgia as well.

I found mine on the Northern Tool site - about $45 as I recall. Even made in the USA!

The problem is not with the plastic can but the type of spout they put on them nowadays.

As far as that metal can with the spout on the bottom, wow talk about sticker shock!
