New Gator Information

I have just procured a guide from the JD product show, and finally we have some good information on the new Gator. It will be called the XUV series and seems pretty similar to the existing HPX Gator in both performance and appearance, although it does appear to have a longer wheelbase. It will have the following changes: a 30 mph top speed; an increase in horsepower by about four HP each (to 24 HP); fully independent suspension with 11" ground clearance; the 12" wheels off the SE edition garden tractors; a full clutch enclosure; fuel injection for the gasoline model; better engine braking (i.e. Yamaha), and true four wheel drive, as before. There will be no changes to the existing towing or payload capacities. Availability date is in March, but I have heard they might be available a little sooner than that. They will have similar styles/models to the existing Gator, although they will apparently do a limited edition hunting type model which is olive in color like the Trail Gator but has a diesel engine. It will be available next summer. Hopefully this is helpful.

Sounds like I might be making a trade in the future! That independent rear suspension and better ground clearance would make it worthwhile to trade up from my '04 Diesel.

Sounds like I need to hold off on buying a utv till I can check out the new gator. It's such a tough choice between IRS and a solid rearend. The IRS will handle the best but for work the solid axle is hands down the way to go.

The independent rear suspension has an excellent ride when empty. they put 1100 lbs in the box 100 lbs over rated and it still had over 6" of ground clearance and the front wheels stayed on the ground

Plus the gas models are fuel injected with electronic governor. The new gov. setup allows the unit to hold its 30mph top speed even after belt wear. The trans. on the gas unit is fully enclosed. And of course the gator has "true 4wd" on it. One nice machine.

Is it still open on the diesel ?? I'm gonna be pissed if it is. Even though I'm not looking to buy one, it's retarded that they wouldn't enclose it.

Oh, you aren't kidding there! I wonder how much the fuel injection adds to the price? I'm sure you are aware that any aftermarket add on fuel injection for them will cost you between $1200 to $1500. However, the fuel injection should completely end any "cold natured" issues. Any chance they are going to come with a factory cab with factory heat and A/C?

I bet you could get one with a cab and A/C for about the price of a new RTV. But I fear it is going to be a very high price anyway.

The Diesel is not fully enclosed. They are coming out with a diesel in the dark green color & black wheels for a limited quantity next fall. Not sure why they didn't fully enclose the diesel's trans., they really didn't explain themselves on that one.

The trick with the fuel injection is that it allows for the electronic governing which automatically adjust to inclines and belt wear which no other maching can offer right now. They do have the cab's, they are just like the cab's on the HPX.
