Hello All!

Can't believe it's been 3 years since I did the clutch in my 1700! The old girl is still going, but is stating to slow down a bit (as am I). Now I have a new issue. The hydraulics that raise the 3PH are giving me trouble. When the tractor is running, the 3PH is jerking up and down. As the mounted implement tries to lower, it is jerked back up in a rhythmic cycle. If the tractor is shut off, the 3PH immediately starts to creep down until it contacts the ground.

I have all the factory manuals, so I can identify parts, and how to work on the problem. I am not quite sure what it is. Any ideas?

Thanks again!

Rockshaft piston seal(s) are probably bad.

The symptom of shutting the tractor off and the 3 point lowering is a sign that the hydraulic fluid is leaking.

When the tractor is running this causes the internal linkage to try and compensate to keep the 3 point lifted resulting in the rhythmic cycle.

My Ford 3000 and Rhino 554 both had the same symptoms until i replaced the main piston oil seals

A mis adjusted control linkage can also result in the same symptom - but not sure the 3 point would drop when the tractor is not running.

Hope this helps

More than likely is your single lift piston seal. I bought mine less that $8 Many years ago and it is an easy replacement. I do have a good post on it. Search the posts or click the link I have below. Let us know if things are unclear and we can help . Pretty much you need to remove the cylinder/piston head under the seat, withdraw the piston and change the double lipped nylon Seal. do be careful with the orientation of the seal as it is on time deal, once you put it wrong you cannot remove as you would damage the seal trying to take it out.
