That thought crossed my mind as well, but it seems that we just don't get that much snow here like we used to.

J.

We don't either, but this year I have shoved 3 times and gotten the blower out twice:(

I was looking to get a BX24 or BX25 for my wife. She cuts 4 small paddock fields of about 5 acres each for the horses that I don't have time for, I have to focus on the other 100 acres when I get home. I wanted her to have 4WD and a FEL for around the stables. I want the BH for ditching and some stump removal around the farm. Will this tractor fit the bill or is it too general. I'd like to get larger but she won't drive my 46 HP Zetor. She needs to have something she can hanle because I am only home a few times a month even when not deployed. Also, was is the "thumb" option mentioned? Can you get a 72 inch belly mower or just the 60? I am a Soldier in Iraq and I want to buy it when I am home on leave. Thanks.

First if it's for your wife the BX is a good choice if she has never driven a tractor before. My wife happily used our BX to get the stuff done that needed doing. I've just traded our BX in for a B2620. The 2620 is more machine than a BX though not massively more. It is slightly more complicated to operate as there is a clutch and 3 speed ranges. If your wife is like mine the bigger more complex a machine is will decrease her desire to use it. The BX I felt comfortable giving a 2 minute lesson to visitors then sending them out for a ride around the property.

As far as mowing 4 X five acre paddocks that's a lot of mowing on a BX even with a 60 inch mower. I think that job would be best done with some oterh type mower or tool. How about a sickle bar or bat wing zero turn.

As far as trenching and digging out stumps is concerned you can do it with a BX but don't expect it to be a quick job especially if you have a heavy clay or rocky soil. A bigger tractor will make these jobs faster and an excavator is better than any backhoe. If you have serious trenching or stumping to get an exacvator.

That is good advice. The thing is, I really don't want too many more machines right now. I also am not home alot to use an excavator or track loader, I would hate to have 20K (or more) in a machine that I run once a month. I would also be concerned with maintenance, it would sit and I think that would be worse than running it everyday. I think I will rent an excavator for the 50 or so stumps I'd like to pull someday! Ha ha.

I was a bit unsure about the backhoe power too, not because of the soil but because I am dealing with Osage Orange, a tree I actually love, but it is tough as nails to deal with dead or alive. I have many scars to show for it. Ditching, digging water lines, power lines etc is my primary mission for the backhoe.

Your comment was right on, at this point my wife will not consider a clutch. My Zetor is not a real big tractor, I use it for all my baling. She seems to like mowing the paddocks and has given her riding lawnmower a real heart attack going over the fields. I can't get her to use a pull behind finishing mower with our Kawasaki Mule, it sits unused. I like the idea of one machine that she can tend to the stable with and mow with and that she might enjoy using. Do you think this will fit that bill?

Your pics make me want the backhoe. Do I need one? Not really, but that is beside the point.

Well if she doen't mind mowing with the riding lawnmower the BX will be a treat. more comfort and less time by some degree. As well she will feel the the BX is almost as easy as a golf cart to operate.
