2001 Century 3045. 1939 9N ford
Hello all...I am a new member and as such I have questions of course. I inherited a 2001 Century 3045 with the Yanmar engine. It was in the flood that hit us here in Missouri this spring. It was completely under water for about three weeks. After much repairs of the eletrical system, relays, starter overhaul and all electrical connections tested. Changing the oil and fuel along with the fuel filter. I turned the engine over by hand to expel the water from the exhaust. I can now get it to crank over very well but it will not start. I removed and cleaned the injector lines of all debris and bled all the air from the system. I am a diesel mechanic for chevrolet diesels since 1979 so I have a little experience with mechanical and eletrical repairs. The point is, I could use your help and any ideas you all might have in this matter....
Thanks in advance, City Boy

Have you bleed the air out of the injectors and pump? Use a meter to be sure that the glow plugs are getting voltage

Fuel pump is hammering away and I have fuel flow through the return lines back to to tank. This is a direct injection system. Do I have glowplugs? I will try once again to bleed the fuel injector lines. I will be going down tomorrow to see what else I can figure out. Thanks...

The Yanmar will start without any glowplugs this time of year, they are quick starters. Obviously make sure the new fuel has no residual water in it. There is an electic fuel shutoff, but if you are getting fuel at the injectors while cranking (crack the injector lines to see), that must be working. If you have good fuel at the injectors while cranking, it should start. If not, check compression. If anyone cranked this engine with water in the cylinders, it will have bent rods, resulting in lower compression. I suppose the injectors could be damaged, but I kind of doubt it.

I went down today to try and get this tractor running. It cranks over real well but it is not getting fuel to the injectors at all. I rechecked the fuel for water and all is okay. I was wondering what turns the injector pump " ON '?? Only 3 wires to the pump and 1 wire has battery voltage and 1 wire for ground. The ground wire tested good also.
I am still wondering if this Yanmar diesel had glow plugs? I don't see any at all.

I believe the 3045 has a block heater.

Should be a solonoid that opens a valve and lets fuel to the pump. These have been known to stick. (A diesel mechanic should know this ??????) You need to remove this solinoid and see if it is stuck.
I had a Cat engine that the valve would stick when warned up. If I had to use the truck again I would shut it off, then turn the key back on to open the valve. If I forgot to leave the key on I would have to crack a fuel line and relieve pressure to open the valve.

Question and a thank you to Micropilot for his wiring digram from an earlier post that showed the eletrical diagram for the Century tractor. At the lower left of the diagram it noted that the glow plug system for the 3045 uses a manifold heater in stead of glow plugs. So that answered that question. The wire diagram is hard to read the fine print on the wire ckts. Is there any way to get a clearer picture. I was looking around the fuel solenoid area to see what powers it up. I copied the diagram and put it into a photo enhancer program to try and read it. It's just too fuzzy..At this time I am NOT getting fuel to the injectors..
Thanks again.

Update on my tractor problem, Found the shut off solenoid not working.I removed the solenoid and If you push the plunger in with your finger while its still hooked up, the plunger will go in and stay in until you shut off the key. When key is off the plunger will come back out and stay.I can start the tractor and it will run. When I shut off the key it will stay running until I push on the shut off lever inside the pump.Any ideas where I can buy the shut off solenoid for a Century 3045 tractor?:)
