new holland 1920
The New Holland 1920 I was using ran completely out of fuel. I put in 5 gallons of diesel but it won't start. The battery is good and the engine turns over great. I suspect that there may have been impurities at the bottom of the tank that are clogging the fuel intake, but I don't know which line to take off and clear. Alternatively, am wondering if with the diesel I need to prime it somewhere. Any recommendations on how to get it started?

Many thank,
Don in warm Hawaii

Did you make sure to purge any air out of the fuel filter?

You need to bleed the system. Start by removing the fuel filter and fill it with fresh diesel and reinstall.

Yeah you need to purge the air from the system. I'm not on my computer so it'd take a long time to write detailed instructions. You may Google it or maybe somebody else can detail it. I do remember working on a 1720 once and it seems there was a screw on the injector pump that had to be bled too. Not sure if your 1920 is the same.

Thanks to Chris and GManBart. What I did was to loosen the hoses to and from the fuel filter and into to the engine to make sure the fuel flow was good. Afterward, it started with some sputtering but then kicked in fine. If the problem recurs, I will try removing the filter and filling it. In the meantime I'll make every effort not to let it run out of fuel.

Thanks again,
Don

My 1720 has a bleeder screw located on the injector pump as Not a member stated...
I ran out of fuel one time due to my neglect but restart was easy cracking open the screw...
You should have the same bleeder screw on the 1920...

Glad to see the OP got it going. Thanks Turbys for confirming the screw at the pump. It's been a long time since I worked on that tractor but I remembered having a hard time getting fuel to the injectors... then I found the bleed at the pump.
