Not sure this photos will show up. They are photos of my old clutch and a new one I ordered. The new one part number is on the box. The old clutch had the inner tension springs or whatever you call them. They are same spline and diameter. The new one just didn't have the springs. Went ahead and put in the tractor (1996 New Holland 3930 Ag). The clutch is installed and been using tractor. The pressure plate I got was also the same except had a few less of the coil springs in the outer diameter. Old tractor shop here said it all will work and you will never know the difference. It does seem to have a little lighter feel on the pedal.
I changes clutch pressure plate out because it was getting where it would not release and lot of grinding to change gears. Adjustment did not help. The clutch disk looked ok when I took it out. The inner circle of the clutch where the springs are looked like it had come out some and was not flush. Not sure if this was the problem or if the pressure plate was just getting weak. This is a 22 year old tractor.
Any thoughts from any of you mechanics on the clutch pictures?

I'm not a mechanic. Just an opinion. I think the one you installed is probably better than the one you took out. I've seen several of those with the spring dampeners come out with broken springs. I've had to change several clutches in my life because the pressure plate gave out.
You should be good for a long time

The disc with no springs was a HD offering. NH probably decided to limit the offerings to streamline inventory.

Been a long time on a clutch replacement. The springs are shock load reducers....don't know which is HD or whatever. I'd think the heavier the application/load, the more the requirement for a soft start meaning the spring one you had was the heavier load application...just speculation.

Also as I remember the disc had to go in a certain way to clear the flywheel...springs and all the protrusions had to go toward the pressure plate.

This clutch with no springs has been working fine since I changed it. Maybe this help someone else out if the run into this. Those springs in the clutch are why I had to replace it.
