I'm considering getting a New Holland 634 Round Baler and a New Holland 474 Haybine as part of a package deal. I don't have any experience with either. Does anyone have any experience with either of these?

Thanks.

If they have been maintained well, they will be fine for a small haying operation. Neither is suited for high volume production. Capital Tractor in Greenwich will provide good parts & service support.

Thanks, Rick. I'm just going to be making hay for our own animals, so I guess I should be fine. They've been well maintained and always stored inside. The seller (the person we're buying our new farm from) is going to live nearby and is guaranteeing that they will work.

I've got a NH634. Point #1 - bought it off of a dealer who took it in a local trade for a Kubota side by side. It had been sitting inside a barn unused for several years. Apparently the sealed bearings don't like to sit for that long and I had to have several bearings and one roller replaced. Labor was the biggest expense. Luckily I got it below market value so even with the extra expense I think I could still get my money back out of it. Dealer was reparing two others at the same time as mine with the similar issues. One even caught fire. Point #2 - It seems to use more string than my neighbors Hesston 540. I tried only using string on one arm, but it wasn't enough. Point #3 - It's pretty easy to use.

Thanks, Crowbar. The guy I'm buying it from is guaranteeing it, so the fact that it's easy to use is real important to me. Thanks for sharing.

I figured that I'd give everyone an update on this post. The baler and haybine have been a good purchase. Just needed to replace a guard on the haybine, and the baler works fine. We made our first round bales ever this weekend. I'm still in the middle of moving from one farm to another (plus I still work off the farm full time), and when I'm done, I'll be having back surgery, so right now, I'm not baling myself, I entered into a deal with a friend to do the baling for me for a percentage of the hay. Hopefully, after I recover from my surgery, we'll be doing the work together, but the equipment is working fine. Sorry, I don't have pictures.
