New Holland 660 round baler burned.

Been a while since I been on the forum...

So anyhoos about a month ago I had someone baling my hay for me and wouldn't ya know it their New Holland 660 baler caught on fire and it pretty much burned the heck out of the inside of it. Luckily I am just on the edge of city limits and the local fire department got there quickly and put it out before the entire world caught fire. I went and looked at it this afternoon and the cylinders, hydraulic lines, and pressure gauge are pretty much intact. Also the PTO driveline, gearbox, roller chains and other drive components look to be in pretty decent shape, even a couple drive belts on the side are still intact. The shields and pickup didn't suffer too much damage either, it still has one good tire and wheel, but the baling chamber is warped and pretty much totaled.

I was wondering is there anything worth trying to salvage off of it before it goes to the scrap yard? I had thought about maybe trying to buy it for scrap price and using it for parts if I could locate another 660 baler in not so good shape for cheap then sell the rest at the scrap yard.

Sorry to hear about the baler. I would keep it around for parts and buy another one that needs them extra parts that the burn baler still has. I am sure others would say scrap it but I don't like scrapping any equipment or any metal. I prefer to put it away in the forest or hedge row just in-case you find another one similar that the parts are interchangeable. If you do decide to scrap it keep the driveshaft and gear box as they are expensive to replace.

In addition to what Mike said all those edges make a good head scratcher for livestock.

The baler is worth about 1250 atleast if it isnt burned completely up to a machinery salvage yard u will never gat that at a scrap yard
