I have a NH 69 Hay baler that I restored. I baled my first 180 bales this weekend. 100 out of the 180 bales came out misshaped and fell apart. can anyone help? I was told to check the hay dogs what do they do?

In addition, check the tension on the chamber springs at the back. Also check the Knives sharpness. These balers are prone to put out curved bales, if everything is not set just right. Ken Sweet

Mis-shaped how? With stings up, are they curved left/right or up/down?

I think 1/8 gap is too much. It may be chewing the hay off on that side and dragging on down the chamber as it ties? How are the wear blocks in the ram? Ken Sweet

There is usually wood or fiber wear blocks that the ram slide on. If the ram does not move left to right or up and down at the point of cutting the hay off. You don't have any play in that area. 1/8 inch is way too much clearance on the blades. Ken Sweet

Hi from Australia,
Firstly is your chamber clean. If it has rust or is missing the bits of angle iron , more than likely it will cause the bale to drag on one side hence the banana bales. I put the angle grinder right over the surface of the chamber and mine immediately were perfect. Always remember to clean out bales at the end of the season and spray chamber with diesel oil or such to stop the rust
Hope this helps
cheers.
ps does any one have a copy of the 69 users manual for sale or in pdf format.

G'day as ken said 1/8 "is way too much you need to get the two knives passing each other and then get a bar between the plunger and the wall opposite the knives and pry them together, you don't have to try to move a mountain you only need gentle pressure. You should have no more than 1/16" if not then you need to adjust towards the stationary knife. Also as mentioned check the hay dogs in the chamber and make sure they are springing correctly.
