I am looking for specs for a New Holland 716C snow blower 60" - specifically, what is the suggested HP of the tractor running it? Also, the rpm of the pto although most of what I have seen seems to suggest 540 rpm

Any thoughts pro/con on the 716C?

Got this from a New Holland technician and thought I would pass it along -

You should have at least 30 hp to operate a 60" snow blower. A hydrostatic transmission is a plus for moving slowly in reverse ( a gear drive may require you ride the clutch to go slow enough). The 60" 716C would be designed to run at 540 rpm.

I ran a 60" blower very similar to yours with an 1130 Case IH, which was 24 horse and about 19 at the PTO. The 1130 was gear drive with 3 reverse speeds and as expected 1st was too slow and 2nd was usually too fast. Horse power was never an issue but the capacity of the blower was. In snow the height of the machine, if you did not slip the clutch, it went over the top. Usually, I would stop and go into the snow to let the blower catch up. The speeds you have available will be more of a factor than the horsepower available. Of course, once you make that 1st path, you can vary your width of cut to suit your speed and capacity.
