Hi, Folks,

Any problem with running a New Holland 918 H 60" flail mower on a GC 2400? The specs are for "under 70 horsepower." It is a lot heavier than the 918 L model, which is for "under 30 hp."

Do you think it will function ok, or will it be too much for the GC 2400?

Reason I ask is, there is a used one available, and I would like to go to a flail mower.

Thanks,

Joe

I have no experience with a flail mower, but I would be very reluctant to use the "under 70HP" version instead of the "under 30HP" version. I'd be afraid of tearing out the PTO clutch arrangement of the 2400. Even starting up my M-F 2325 MMM gives the clutch mechanism a pretty good workout, it seems to me. Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the reply, that's the sort of info I need.

...Entirely welcome. Hope it helped.

To elaborate a bit, my tractor has always handled it, but sometimes it almost seems like the thing is going to stall when I start up the MMM: a real "slam" and some shuddering before those blades come up to speed. And I never engage that PTO except at idle.

I think I've also read where sometimes just the weight of heavier equipment on the 23/24/2600 frames' 3PH can be an issue; you might search for that in these threads. WBB/irvingj
