New Holland 918L Flail Mower Belt Tension

Replacing the belt on a 918L Flail mower and in need of advice or manual instruction for correct belt tension. Bought it used with no manual. Thanks!!

I do not have a manual but this is what I do and it has worked so far. Loosen the bolts on the gearbox and the shaft supports. Back off the two pusher bolts so that you can push the assembly back and slip on the new belts, then using the pusher bolts to move the assembly forward to tighten the belts till there is about a 1/2" of deflection at the mid point between the sheaves. Adjust both bolts so that the sheaves are/stay in line with each other, then re-tighten the gearbox and support bolts.

You should also invest in a V Belt tension gauge from Amazon or the Gates Rubber Company to help with adjusting the V belt if the flail mower does not have a spring tensioned flat snubber pulley.
