I traded up to a TC40D a few weeks ago and have received a brochure on their extended service plan. Has anyone else purchased this or looked into it? Is it worth it? What does it cost?

I was told over $1000 for one or two years, I can't remember too much because my mind went blank when my dealer told me. He also said that the cost wasn't worth it since if anything happened it would probally be cheaper to pay to have it repaired anyways.

Since you have a two-year warranty on your tractor, you can certainly take that time to see what experience shows you about needing the extended warranty. I have never purchased one on any vehicle I own and I have always come out ahead. I really think these are a "cash cow" for dealers. What I wish is that my dealer would offer me a simple "service contract" which would cover all scheduled service, filters, fluids, etc. for say...5 years or more. If they offered a slight discount, I think I would be happy to pay for something like that. Who knows, some dealers may actually offer this.

actually they are cash cows for New Holland not the dealers we get a 50.00 handling fee for each person we sign up on an extended service contract New Holland gets all the cash from the contract. so not as much as you might imagine for the dealer

Rick, I stand corrected on the warranty/dealer issue. I should have just said they were "cash cows" period. Instead of the warranty, I'd just like to see a full service option on my tractor. Maybe even a "premium" on-site service for all scheduled maintenance. I even wonder how many folks on this forum would be willing to pay a little extra to have their tractors serviced on-site at their homes/farms. If I could save the hassle of trailering my tractor and hauling it to the dealer or of having to deal with used filters/fluids disposal, it just might be something I would pay for. Unlike the warranty, I'd know exactly what I was paying for from the beginning.

I agree with most of the posters and feel it is a waste of money. The 2 year warranty should provide protection and beyond that probably would be less to repair than cost of the plan. Just my 2 cents.

service plan sounds ok to me.My Dad had one on his 15hp craftsman rider...paid $350for i think 2yrs service.included belts blades, full tune up etc. he didn't re-up because it went t $500 for 2 yrs... I wonder how fiesable it would be cost wise... for a dealer and customer...

I bought the extended service plan for my TC45D last year. It was $900.00 and change. I NEVER buy extended warranties! However, I thought the coverage NH offered was very complete and found the price was reasonable.
