I am looking at buying another New Holland tractor. I was curious about the NH 1920. I have read rave reviews about them on this forum and I have owned the little brother to this tractor (1520). I had the 1520 years ago and it was just a bit underpowered for me on the pto (18hp) as the tractor was a hydrostat. The tractor was in the winter of it's life and had been well used by the time I had bought it, so it's hard for me to determine how good it really was. I have found a 1997 NH 1920 with 750 hrs., 4x4, with a 7308 loader and clam shell bucket priced reasonably enough. I kept the 757c hoe from the 1520 when I got rid of it, so it will go right on. I am curious about the engine (Shibaura 122) Is this engine a sleeved engine or cast cylinders? Are parts readily available for this rig? If I had to rebuild this unit years from now, are rebuild kits available from other than New Holland? I have read that some parts are available from Napa. I think this is the shuttle shift, as it has "ss" on the side of the dash....there may be another letter but the loader upright is blocking a good view in the pics. How reliable is the shuttle shift? Any known issues to look for in this model? I hope there someone with some expertise that can answer these questions. I have been running Massey 135's for a few years now with perkins diesels, they are awesome tractors, just not suited for loaders and at times difficult to transfer the power to the ground. Good dealer support on the Massey and I can never say that they have been anything but dead reliable. I hope this new machine will treat me as good. Thanks in advance for any responses and have a great 2011.
