NH TC33D
Hi all, I have an 18 yr old NH TC 33D with 1800 + or - hrs on it. Sometimes it won't start while in neutral (like it's supposed to) I have rocked it some or rolled it a little and most times, that seems to do the trick. It just sucks having to try and push a tractor to get it to start... :) Any ideas?

A new starter Bendix (gear) is worth a try.

I sprayed electronics cleaner on the safey switch plug under the seat. (coulkd also be neutral indicator, PTO indicator, etc.)

I have a MF 265, (1976?? model) that had a very similar issue a year ago. Changed out the starter bendix, and problem disappeared.

It is not clear exactly what your problem is.

Cranks but does not start, does not crank.....Starter spins but does not engage flywheel.

You need to invest about $10 in a test light.

If you are talking about a no crank condition, connect alligator clip to battery negative terminal and touch the sharp probe to small wire on starter solenoid.

Turn key to start position. Light should come on. If it does not you have a relay or safety switch problem.

If it does come on then your problem is the starter. Poor solenoid, poor ground, or need a rebuild or new starter.

Best tool ever for trouble shooting 12 volt (non computer ) systems... I have volt-ohm meters ranging from $50 to $200 and for automotive or tractor work 12 volt test lamp is first tool I grab...

Neutral start switch faulty by the sounds of that . I would unscrew it and put a Multi meter across the terminals, then work the ball in and out with your finger to make sure you have continuity EVERY time you do so . If not, replace it .
