Anybody out there weld on some grab hooks to the FEL QA bracket of a NH tractor? Would this cause any issues with it's strengh or possibly get in the way when switching between attachments? My reasoning behind the grab hooks here would be in those situations where the load is close to, but just over, the lifting capacity of the loader and by removing the bucket gain an additional ~275 lbs of lift. Please see attached for the locations I'm thinking of.

My dealer welded my grab hooks on the top side of the bucket lip and they've worked real well so far. I can understand that where you are putting them would distribute the weight farther back and that's a good thing...... so I don't see any problems where you are putting them except they look a little close to the outsides. I'd suggest to be sure they're moved enough inward to allow easy access to get chains over and hooked in.

I had the same question. With that bar support 1,200 lbs if I put a hook there?

I wouldn’t weld to that bar as the weak link is that attach points left and tight. Now that depends on what you grab. Light stuff no problem, but it you really pull, you will bend and or break those welds.
If you weld to the bucket make sure they brace the hooks. I had a guy just weld the hooks to my bucket, and with use they turned into pretzels. The force just peeled the metal away from the bucket. I had to heat up the bucket reshape the metal, staighten out the hooks THEN reinforce the hooks with heavier metal.

I think the spots you marked would be ideal. I would not recommend lifting from the middle of that beam because if it bends, you will throw off the geometry of your QA adapters (pull them closer together and maybe put them at an angle). I plan to put hooks exactly where you showed on my adapter and if I get a heavy load, I'll string a chain between both so the weight will be equally distributed. !000 to 1500 lb would not be too much on those welds in my opinion. A hook welded to a bucket has a lot less surface area welded than that crossbeam.

Also, if you add hooks to the bucket, I'd put those right on the welded reinforcement mounts for the quick attach. That way you will never deform the bucket.

I have also removed my bucket when I've needed to lift a heavy load. It does give extra lift capacity by not having to lift the weight of the bucket.

I've simply passed a chain through the openings behind the two quick attach plates, then hooked the chain back onto itself to keep it from sliding. You could also probably loop the chain once through each opening as well to keep it from shifting.

I've used this technique to remove heavy implements from a trailer. I've never lifted things high or moved them very far using this method, as it is probably a bit less safe than using pallet forks or other more traditional methods.
