Icebite, the book has a misprint there and should say 2.13" as 54 mm is 2.13".
As for checking the measurement of the fingers, if it is as easy as checking when bolted to the flywheel and you have that measurement, then do it. While agree with Rick that the manufacturer should set it correctly, I have seen fingers misadjusted and have had to split tractors again because of misadjusted pressure plates from oem's. The comeback from the manufacturer under warranty circumstances is the line in the service manual that states, "check finger height adjustment before installation".
Probably 98-99% of the time it is assembled correctly, but even new parts deserve a once over for proper assembly, especially if it is going to save several hours of work.
