Kubota L2800
New to the forum so sorry if this is a repeat question. My wife and i recently purchesed a property and it has become very appearant that we will need a tractor to maintain. I have been watching craigslist for about two months and realized i was going to up the budget a little to get something that was not older then i am or a complete pile of junk. So in the last couople of days i have found a NH TC33D with around 900 hrs on it and a 2009 Kubota L2800 HST with under 150hrs on it. So i am wondering if a newer tractor with less hours or the older tractor like the NH with more HP and features would be the better choice. i do not think the difference of 2 or 3 net HP would make or brake me. The property is an orchard so the machine would be used mostly for brush hogging and snow removal. I will also be maintaining the 49 arces that is next door (brush hogging). Thanks

Have a look at the weight of the machines for a heavy implement like a rotary cutter. My guess is the NH is a heavier machine with more PTO hp as well. Features don't sound like they mean much until you start using the machine a lot, then you start to see the advantage of the extra's. 5ft is likely the widest cutter to use with a tractor with around 25 PTO hp, make sure your tractor isn't too much wider than 60 inches.

Is the New Holland a Hydrostat?

I had one of them years ago, and it was a heck of a mowing tractor. Mine had the SuperSteer option, which made it able to turn very sharply.
They are like comparing apples and oranges.. The New Holland (made by Shibaura of Japan) is a very complicated deluxe tractor with many features.
The Kubuta L2800hst is plain vanilla. The Shibaura/NH has for a homeowner about 8 more years of wear and tear on it. But still 900 hours is not many for a well maintained tractor.
I also had an L3400hst. which is the same as the L2800hst with a few more ponies. A good but simple tractor. Be sure you try the 3pt hitch on the Kubota, by moving it up slowly with an implement on the 3pt to see if it has the Kubota standard L "jerky hitch syndrome".. If you want to read the thousands of post about that,
Google it or you tube it. etc. My L3400hst had it bad. Some do, some don't, or some people don't mind. Either one would do what you need to do.

Thanks for the info. The NH and L are about the same weight. the L is 3 inches narrower then the NH at 51.4 and the L has a claimed PTO hp of 23.5 which is 3.4 less then the hydro NH. Would the L handle a 5ft cutter at 23.5 pto hp? I am not sure if the NH is a gear or hydro.

Yeah, you would be OK with a 5 foot cutter on the L2800
