I've also heard you can throw a potator cut in half in the pot and that will suck it up too!!

Reminds me of what I did a couple of yrs ago on my Massey 235. I pulled up to the filling station and started putting gas in the tank. Luckily, my brother was with me and stopped me with only 3 gallons in the tank. It was almost completely empty and I don't know how big the tank is but I stopped fueling immediately. Not a mechanic and not wanting to drain the tank at my local Exxon station, I rationalized that it probably wouldn't hurt it. I filled it with diesel, went out and mowed 7 hrs. that day and didn't notice any ill effects. I'm not saying it's the brand but those Perkins diesels are great engines. My Massey 235 is 35 yrs. old, sits in the rain and all she asks for is a hot battery and she's ready. As posted, I'm not yet the fan of my JD with the yanmar engine.

My two cents are this. Run the tractor and don't worry.

have a tc35a and believe I have something in the tank that keeps blocking the fuel line as it exits the tank. Is there a strainer in the tank? I'll try the unbolt/empty/flush technique. Sounds like the best solution.

found another thread that discusses my last post. I guess there is no strainer in the tank.

That's too bad... the older FNH XXXX series did use a tank tap with a finger sized strainer on them.. i liked them.. extra protection..

Changed my fuel filter and found some blockage in the main line, and also found some additional blockage in the vent line. Used a bike pump to unblock the lines! Still have not removed and flushed the tank, as it is nearly full. I'll wait till there is less fuel to remove and do that final procedure.

I would get as much out as possible and then fill it with desel wait awhile and get the fuid off the top again -- Is gas lighter than desel? Also for the next 10 hours or so, keep the tank topped off. Just a thought.

Dextron added to diesel fuel will help lube and clean the injection pump, injectors & valve guides better than any high priced fuel additive you can by off the shelf.

Would like to add my $.02-
In the "old days", ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) was an excellent fuel additive, but I definitely DO NOT recommend putting it in your fuel today. Because of overdrive transmissions, the makeup of ATF has changed dramatically. Friction modifiers are added, along with other ingredients that are not designed to be "burned" in a fuel system. In addition some o rings can be damaged by long term use of ATF; (not compatable).

Refiners of ATF are not required to remove soot, and ash, which are big enemies of diesel engines, and naturally occur in dino oils.

There is some good reading on a couple of sites I have visited, that has opened my eyes about this subject.
Bob Is The Oil Guy: Viewing list of forums has excellent info, just do a search.

If you feel you have to add something in your fuel, some companies are making excellent additives that are designed to be in a fuel system.
Power Serve, and Lucas, are brands that I prefer. (No affiliation with either, just mho).

In a related issue, the new Ultra low sulphur diesel is a drier diesel that some older engines aren't setup for. ULSD will run in older units, with no problems, according to EPA, and engine manufacturers, they are not the ones footing the bill when an injector system fails because of lack of sufficient lubrication. Sulphur naturally occurs in crude oil, and while it is a lubricant in diesel, it is a pollution monster (according to EPA).
If there is any doubt, I would speak to a qualified mechanic, or engine manufacturer rep. about this.
EPA does not require the sulphur to be removed from the dyed diesel (for now), but if you are like me, once in a while I have to put ULSD in my off road equipment. When this happens, I ALWAYS add a fuel additive, or 2 stroke oil, or both, just to be safe.
Sorry for the long post.
