Hi all,
I am going to check out a 2003 New Holland TC45D today. It comes with a matching loader and sub frame backhoe. The machine has a cab of some sort on it and is listed as having heat, and has approximately 1500 hours. The machine has seen duty on a horse farm, and is listed at 19,900. Pictures look great, and the cosmetic condition is described as good to very good, and the mechanical as excellent.

I am wondering about the price as I see prices all over the place corresponding to a wide range of conditions and geographical desperity. I am mostly feeling that this is a good and possibly great buy. Would love to hear your thoughts.

The TC models were made for NH by Shibaura and are very reliable workhorses. Parts are still available and should be for a long time. That price is not out of the ballpark for what others are listed at if it is in good condition. Remember that is asking price, not selling price.

Welcome to TBN. :welcome: Let everyone know how it worked out. We have a rule about buying a new to you tractor. No pictures, it never happened, so post a picture if you bring it home.

I don't know about the price being out of the ballpark.

Tractor House is showing several in that price range without cab OR backhoe.

That being said those are all seriously lower hour'd machines.

I'd use the clock as a lever to whittle the asking price down some.

I own/run an equestrian facility myself and know the hard hours my LS puts in (w/o dragging a backhoe around)

Enjoy the search. The hard work begins with ownership.
The journey to get there is fun, though.

Just got home. The guy couldn't get the PTO to work. Someone dropped a rock on the hood from the back of the loader. Those were really the only things. I believe the pto is more of a how to work it thing because it's never been used, he's going to get with the dealer in the morning. The thing was really tight and solid, more cosmetic blemishes like corrosion on the feet of the backhoe stabilizers and the bottom of the buckets being rusty from sitting on a stone floor in a barn. The cab is an aftermarket cab with the vinyl doors like Jeep soft tops, but the heat works real well. I left a deposit conditional on the pto working and being tested. Will post pics if/when I get her home. That's going to be a project in itself!

Good luck. Surface rust is usually not a big issue but make sure that is all it is. I store mine with the bucket front edge down so water will not collect in it. To really test the PTO the backhoe will need to come off and an implement like a cutter or tiller put on. Depending on how far away it is and the roads you could possibly drive it home. I have driven my TC40DA 10 miles one way to the shop. I can do that faster than I can trailer it. In Texas a tractor on the road is a common site.

I have a TC30. The pto was awfully hard to slide the lever forward to get it to run. Previous owner never used it. After using it a few times - goes in without a problem. - Check the bell housing for crakc where the loader or sub frame bolt on. Some people reported problems on tbn. Do a search for more info.

Good luck

I heard from him, they were able to get it freed up by spraying some lube into the parts by removing the seat and a panel. Sounds like tcreeley describes. The PTO has never been used .

Nice tractor. If they don't have one buy an owner's manual from a NH dealer. It has very detailed wiring specs that come in handy.

I just got through mowing for the fourth time this year and cleaning stalls. That white stuff on the ground does not look like the same stuff that my horses put down.
