This part # (86599708DS ) ,came from Messicks web site, desicription states that it is a HD Toothbar 72" with 7 teeth , to be installed over the Factory Bolt on cutting edge.

Question is, is it simliar to Markham's , Slips over the cutting edge's and a Bolt through each side of the Bucket?

Or

Does it Bolt onto the bucket, using longer bolts and the same holes that the Bolt On Cutting edge uses?

New Holland dealers if you dont want to post the price , Please PM me with the Cost for this Item.

Thanks.

I'm no dealer, but the toothbar bolts to the sides of the bucket and the cutting edge bolts to the bucket's lip. If the toothbar is cut properly, it will fit like a glove over the cutting edge or be a little loose if no cutting edge is installed. Some have elongated holes to the sides of the bucket, but I don't remember that being the case with my toothbar. Mine is made for no bolt on cutting edge.

The toothbar bolts to the sides, the cutting edge to the front. I can't recall seeing a toothbar though our shop that is not done this way... except for bolt on teeth that are not on a bar.

I don't have a toothbar on my DX29 with QA 60" bucket on the 114 loader -- equivalent to the TC29DA and LA14 loader. The bucket has a thicker bolted on section in the front that would be the cutting edge unless I'm very mistaken, and that has a series of about 7 holes through it which I presumed were for attaching the toothbar in conjunction with the ones on the sides of the bucket. What are the holes in the cutting edge for if not adding a toothbar?

Rich, go back up two posts and read my post. It tells exactly what the holes in the bucket are for.

I read that, but apparently don't understand. I have holes in what I think is the cutting edge, unless I'm calling the wrong thing the cutting edge. This is the thickened part of the lower side of the bucket at the front, angled to more or less of an edge. Is a cutting edge something else that attaches to the bucket? I have holes in this thicker section and holes in the sides. I just presumed a toothbar would bolt on in both places rather than one or the other.

Just as Jim said, the holes in the front bottom edge of the bucket are for the reversible, replaceable cutting edge. The holes on each side plate of the bucket (total of 2) hold the tooth-bar in place. The tooth-bar locks over the lower edge of the bucket and as such adds strength to it.

Here's a picture that's worth a thousand words...:)

There is a bolt-on cutting edge (cutter bar) that bolts to the bucket edge and is reversible.

Ah Hah! So that's a wear item then, like the lower edge of my back blade. Does it make much difference in how the bucket works in dirt? It doesn't look like it would, but I can see why a guy working a lot of rocky ground or gravel would want to have one on there to save the bucket edge from wear.

I had the cutting edge for about 3 years prior to buying a toothbar. There was just slight wear on it's corner edges during that time. The thing I gained most with the cutting edge is that it doubles the strength of the bucket's edge and when it wears, it is easy to reverse or remove to put a new edge onto. For really heavy duty work, I think the bolt-on edge will prolong the bucket life far beyond not having one. However, I don't have any of that long term experience, so this theory is a presumption on my part.
