Just purchased a New Holland Workmaster 50 and the first time that I used it, the safety switch in the seat kept shutting the tractor off. It is really sensitive! The problem appears to occur when I am sitting squarely in the seat but press the clutch or the brake (which naturally reduces the weight on the seat). I have tried adjusting the floating seat stiffer and softer. It appears to be worse when I make the seat stiffer. Any ideas?

Put a 40# sack of dog food across your lap . If details on possible adjustments aren't in your OP manual - call the dealer. This could become a potentially dangerous situation.

The idiot switch assumes the weight of the operator ( it requires adjustment for my 5' wife and 6'2" me) operating on level ground. Once you get into steep hills, operating in reverse, standing to check seed spreader hopper, etc all bets are off. Any movement that changes your center of gravity, even reaching forward ( on a steep hill) to change drive direction while pushing the clutch in. It's a death trap if you're in an emergency situation. The only way past it is to set the seat for a light person, but then you lose the shock absorption and bust up your kidneys. I know it was a joke in the previous post but we did throw on a 65# concrete bag for my 6' grandson because he was too light.......

I asked about the seat safety switch last time my tractor was in the shop for warranty work. They said that it is a design flaw that New Holland is aware of. No recommended repair. This answer weakend my confidence in the brand.

I just recently purchased a boomer 37 and I pretty much disabled the seat sensor. Unplug the sensor loop a wire into the connection from the tractors wiring harness. I did this on my Workmaster 40 as well works fine.

Sounds like a good excuse for ice cream, doughnuts & more beer :D
I'd hate to flat out disable the switch, is there a way you could adjust it closer to the seat or space the contact area on the seat bottom down closer to the switch, like with a dab of glue or caulk (hardened first), glue on a 1/8" wood shim :confused3: But that's for the "operator presence" switches I've seen, I don't know what's on your machine.
