On an earlier thread, several members suggested that a New Idea Cutditioner was an economical hay cutter and conditioner. I have a few questions about it.

I know of someone selling one who claims it is in good condition. He is asking $500. Assuming it is in good condition, is that a fair price?

I know the cutditioner is a flail mower. What is different about it from other flail mowers? How does it condition? I know someone who has one, and it doesn't appear to have a crimper.

What should I look for when I'm looking at one. Any tips on how to tell if it's in good condition?

Thanks!!!

Never used one, but price sounds fair. www.ytmag.com might be a good place to ask more.

I believe the flails do the crimping, and the rear tin-work is designed to flow the hay away from the flails & into a windrow. A regular flail mower keeps beating up the hay, pounding it straight down into the ground.

At the other site there are some suggestions for using a brush hog with on side removed for a hay cutter as well.

The main thing to look for is the life left in the cutting knives--If they are already way back into curve--will be costly to replace all---Price is fair and about what we sell the 7 ft machines for with hydraulic cyl--Ken Sweet
