New Implement shed

Thought I would share my new implement shed build with you guys and gals. I wanted a place to put all the attachments, parts, and pieces to tractor and outdoor stuff that doesn't need to be kept above freezing in the winter. It will have two large bypass sliding doors. This way I can get at one side or the other as needed. I'm using red oak for the siding and doors that came from trees on the land.
I'm just not sure how to finish it yet, let it grey naturally or seal it with an outdoor stain? I figure I can always paint it later if I don't like either one.

I'll post more as I progress. Everything is taking a lot longer than expected. Each door took between 10 and 12 hours because I had to plane and cut all the boards to size. I really underestimated how much work the block retaining wall would be as well.

Nicely done,heavy duty construction.I hope you made it big enough for some "expansion" of implements,you know how they multiply when they are left out overnight unsupervised.

I did some timber framing on the house and most of the oak is the left over slabs of various thickness. It is taking me forever to plane it all down to use it. The nice thing is that it has been air dryed in my garage for four years.

sliding trolley gets here today and then I can hang the doors. In the mean time I will start to side it.

Looks great - what is it 16x20 ' ?

As to stain or paint I would lean to doing nothing as if you paint the wood wont breath as well and moisture could be entrapped. Also if you do paint or stain the doors you should do both sides to prevent warping. With oak that is seasoned like you have you shouldnt see too much warpage at this point - if it was green then it does move.

We have bypass garage doors now 55 yrs old made from southern yellow pine, painted and are still in decent condition on the top but I need to replace the bottom sill plate - they are jointed/joined like yours and 2" thick.

Also I would suggest mounting the doors an 1" or 2" above ground level in case of snow/ice build up and or frost heaving of the ground

Great job - like the oak doors - they must weigh a few lbs and good luck hanging them.

That's very nice bubbacuse. Right now all our attachments are just parked on a bed of gravel. I've been dwelling on erecting a swing set like 'A' frame and draping it with a suitable outdoor fabric.

I like how your enclosure is taller in front than in back...that's my goal too.

Looks good, and yes block work is a PITA! I am building a 18x20 carport kit on top of a 2' block wall, getting the perfect morter mix is the worst part. I have many pics, and will start a thread when I figure out how to load them.

Thanks for the advise, I think I will leave it to grey. The roof is 14x26. With the large over hangs the inside is 10x22.

That looks really sturdy. I presume you put good drainage in behind the blocks(?)

The ground is all sand and I am putting rain gutter on that goes to a pipe that carries it away. Otherwise I need to worry about washouts with heavy rain
