Hello,
Picked up this tractor this weekend. I checked the 3pt arms on some of my other attachments. I thought it was going to have CAT 0 but it has CAT 1. Can this tractor handle a 5' brush hog or a 5" box blade? Should I install an over running clutch? Blade use and brush hog usage will only be occasional, but I do not want to overwork this tractor. I am not against down sizing equipment if it will perform better. Also does anyone have a list of replacement fluids and filters that are not John Deere? Should I just pay the premium price to cover myself? Thanks for your help. WP_20150913_001.jpg

John Deere fluids are not over-priced IMO.

Your 750 should handle the 5' brush hog just fine at a reasonable pace, as well as the box blade.
Nice looking rig. Bet you will enjoy it.

That tractor is sweet, congrats!!! I have owned two different JD750's prior to getting my 790. The first one was an '81 two wheel drive, the second one was an '84 4x4, but neither one had a loader on it. Loved those tractors, very easy to maintain and very reliable! They've got the Yanmar 3cyl diesel rated for 21 engine hp, and about 18 pto hp. If you don't know the year model of yours, you can go to tractordata.com and figure it out by your serial number. The name plate is just below (or above?) the PTO output shaft. They also list all of the spec's for it too.

First off, you do not need an overrunning clutch, it has one built in. When you've been running a bush hog at speed, you should be able to hear the overrunning clutch start racheting whenever you suddenly push the clutch in.

As for the size of implements, I always ran a 4ft Landpride bush hog behind them, just felt like the right thing to do with 18pto hp. Plus, not having a loader made the front end lighter. There were times the 4ft BH would pick the front wheels off the ground. No doubt it will run a 5ft BH, but in heavy brush, I suspect it will bog down easily and you may have to take smaller "bites" on each pass. You FEL should help keep the front end down though. Now I did run a 5ft box blade with them, and the 4x4 handled it pretty good but it had ag tires on it. Your turfs may be a bit of a hindrance with ground engaging implements, so you might want to stick to 4ft harrows and such.

As for the fluids, I personally use JD fluids mainly for the peace of mind it gives me, with the exception of motor oil and I use the Shell Rotella for that. Good luck with the 750, I know you will get much good use out of it!
