With the current FED rate cut, I speculate YES.

And further, looking into my crystal ball, in the next six months, I see further incentives (like rebates) coming to move tractors.

I was just coming back to this post to say the same thing.

NH also has a 0% for 60 months. Montana Tractors shows it available on their site too. With that said, I feel that more manufacturers will be offering longer terms for their 0%. If not, they'll probably add or increase rebates to offset the difference.

0% for 60 months vs 36 months will almost cut ones payment in half!

I think the opposite will come true. The reason the Fed dropped the rate is to spur the economy. Look at the markets 6 month charts, we needed that. My take is, they will sell more in a stronger economy and will not have to bring on more incentives. Will be interesting to watch.

beersngars Interesting comment, but I think that the damage to the economy is still unfolding. In August alone 250k people lost their homes. I think they will be shy at exposing themselves to more debt without added stimulus.

riptides, you are right about this not fixing the economy, but will be viewed as a step in the right direction. Of course what do I know, my 401K is just catching up from 2001.

It not just the economy that will cause people to shy away. Consumers have become accustomed to getting 0% financing on durable goods. I've got friends that won't purchase things unless 0% is available because they want to hold on to their cash.

Plus, the 1/2 point cut doesn't make people want to spend more; it makes borrowing money cheaper. So if it's cheaper for Kubota, or any company to get money for their loan programs, it's only in their interest to pass that to their customers. If they don't, there's no reason for the consumer to spend.

A lot of this is pure stupidity too.. I know the bank that holds our mortgage, the loan officer was complaining like **** because some new state laws three years ago, DEMAND the bank loan mortgage monies to those, shall we say, much below standard poverty levels and most all in some sort of subsistence,,, Instead of picking out a reasonable home, they pick these huge homes with high taxes knowing they'll lose in a short time,, We all pay for this stupidity... It can be nice, as a politician to claim to help those downtrodden and in need, Fact is, there will always be those multi millionaires, the middle class, although closing quickly, and those without that will never get ahead, A handfull do, that take the help, then help themselves to get into mainstream society and make something of themselves and their families,,, Most do not,. Instead, these ultra liberal laws demand of banks and when the bottom falls out, the banks take the heat and the rest of us pay dearly for lawmakers unreasonable requests.

What tractors is this on for NH? I just looked at their site and the best rate I could see was 0% for 36 months.

I agree with most of what you are saying except, who do you think convinced these people they could afford this new house? Could it be the mortgage broker who stands to make more money with a larger mortgage? He gets paid based on the mortgage sale and if the owner defaults, they don't come back and take his commision back. Where are the checks and balances to ensure the banks are not handling too much risk on these mortages. I do agree that people should take more responsibilty in their personal finances. I also think the lenders are going to start shaking out the bad brokers who are out for nothing but personal gain.

If the US Gov did not step in to guarantee the loans right now, we would have a much larger market meltdown. Trust me, this move has nothing to do with helping the owners of these houses.

To try to not get off topic, I will bet there will be better offers in the pipeline for trying to entice buyers into a new tractor. One rate cut is not going to fix this problem.

The only good thing for me is that the CAD dollar hit 98 cents USD today. It will be at par by Christmas by my guess. You will see me coming to the US to pick up my new Kubota.

Cheers,
