My new Kubota lawnmower arrived today! I have 3 of my 15 acres in finish grass. My old Honda 38" rider took 7-9 hours to mow the stuff. Today I tried out my new mower and it only took a little over two hours. This machine is slick! The best part is that I dont have to get off the tractor to dump the bag. The hydralic bag attachment holds 14 bushels which I only had to dump 4 times. I was initially hesitant to get a mower with a 48" deck. I originally was going to order the 60" side discharge model but the dealer talked me out of it saying the 48 would be faster. He was correct. Great machine to own. My new 3430 will be delivered on friday...cant wait

Is that the machine with the "straight shoot?" It sure looks like a real neat tractor. I looked at one at the dealer and was impressed. It sounds like you are getting into Kubotas in a big way /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The discharge chute is to the rear of the mower deck, basically where the 3point hitch is usually located. The best part is there is no clogging like on side discharge mowers in addition to getting close on both sides for trees and flower beds. I have saved so much time by not having to stop and clear a clogged discharge chute like I did on my old Honda mower which was a good mower until I became spoiled with the new one.

Thats a super tractor!

I think its usually overlooked by most potential buyers. I demo'd one two years ago and it set a high bar for me ever since. I recently began the lawn tractor consideration again and of course the DirectShoot was the benchmark. There is no other machine that can touch its versitility and features. The 48" rear discharge deck cuts very nice and it has two cleanouts that can be cleared from the seat. The hydraulic dumping catcher is very slick. I demo'd it in the Fall when the leaves had piled up on top of an unmowed lawn. The tractor zipped right through it all leaving the lawn beautifully cut and the leaves picked up. I simply rode to composting area back in another section of our property to dump it all. Best of all, because of the rear discharge the tractor has a very narrow footprint so we were able to slip it between two cars in the garage with room to spare. Side discharge mowers have overhang on the discharge side and the funnel plumbing up to the grass catcher which makes them require more storage space as well as limiting cuts around trees to be done from one side.

Congrats on the DirectShoot. It will last you a LONG time.

I am going on my third year with the G2160-R48s. It has to be one of the best investments I have made. It cut my mowing time in half. The tight turning radis helps to trim around trees and flower beds. My wife didn't see the need to spend that kind of money on a tractor that would only cut grass, but now that I have some extra time to work on her project she is pleased also. The only trouble I have had with mine is one time something happened (???) and none of the safety features( back up switch, seat switch, blade switch, ect.) would work and once you started it the key switch would not turn it off. Dealer fixed it under warranty but never told me what the problem was. Other than that it has been great. I don't mind cutting grass anymore.

STPaulsen,

Congratulations on the new mower. I just checked Kubota's website and it sure looks like a nice unit. Would you mind answering just a couple of questions?

1.) Approximately how much was the B2160-48?

2.) Was your Honda tractor an HT3813 by any chance? I've had one of those since 1986 and it sure is a great little lawn tractor. However, I only mow and bag about 2/3 acre so it doesn't see real heavy use. (I've still got the original bags for it and they're in great shape!) I'd really like to replace it with a new unit (maybe something like yours /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) but I don't think the Honda is going to "give up the ghost" anytime too soon. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks, and good luck with your new tractor.

Rick, list price is about $10,200. I ended up paying $8200, my dealer was being nice because I also purchased a Kubota L3430 HST and 4 implements including a backhoe. My Honda was a 3813. Very good rider. Mine was a 1990 model and was still in excellent shape. I gave it to my father in law as a love gift. Cant go wrong there. steve

Yikes!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Talk about sticker shock. It's funny how it takes us a while to "adjust" to such price info. I guess I really shouldn't be too surprised. I paid around $3,000 for my Honda HT3813 back in '86, so I guess when you factor in inflation and the considerable difference in machine capabilities, that price isn't so far out there.

Me thinks I'll try to keep my HT3813 running another 15 years or so, though. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the info, and good luck with your tractors.

Rick, it sounds like you take pretty good care of your Honda. Mine was 4 years newer than yours and still ran like new. They are a good machine. My only issue was purely time management. I would make a good bet by saying yours will last many more years. Steve
