Thanks to a lot of research, reading various forums (especially this one), and asking around, I am now the proud owner (me and Kubota Financing) of an M4900, 4wd, with front end loader. By most posts that I read, the M4900 is really NOT a compact, however, as a replacement for a pre 1968 Ford 3000, I needed something bigger than what the compacts offered. Haven't got a chance to play with it yet because of the weather. Have had rain here in Georgia almost everyday. I bushhog (6') over 8 acres of old pasture. My Pa-in-Law also gardens about one and a half acres. ALL dealers recommended that if I even thought about getting a front end loader to go ahead and invest in the 4wd. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's good to know that someone else is sending kubota credit money every month! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The old fords are hard to beat. i have spent many hours on a ford 3000 and a 3600. but the kubota will will probably hold it's own.

Congratulations... you have made a great choice that should work for you and keep you entertained for a long time. Right decision about the 4wd also... you will really appreciate it with that loader. Some of the bigger compacts have about the same hp as your M4900, but yours has the weight, ground clearance and wheelbase to do continuous, serious duty in a farm environment.

When the sun comes out, post a picture here and show off your new toy... er, piece of equipment.

The Ford 3000 served us well for over six years. We (Brother-in-law, Father-in-law and myself) were the third owner of this tractor. Our local mechanic maintained it since it was new. It had the Select-O-Matic (SOS) transmission. Everyone told us we would regret this trans, but it never gave us any trouble. It caught on fire (the battery cables shorted out) about three years ago. When the radiator seams melted the sudden spray put it out. But not before all the wiring was gone. I then hot-wired it with a push button starter. Of course this by-passed the lockout for the SOS trans so you could start it in gear (VERY DANGEROUS). Last year it was very hard to start (Diesel). Our mechanic went over everything then checked the compression. It had zero (0) in one, about 100 in another, and around 200 in the last. He said they should have at least 300 each. Didn't want to tear it down and have to rebuild, especially with the SOS trans. We will see how the Kubota measures up. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great new tractor and I am sure you will find power to spare with that big boy. I know what you mean about the rain here in Georgia. It has been to wet to do much of anything lately but I guess it is better than snow. What part of Georgia do you hail from?

We live in Richland, Georgia, about 35 miles south of Columbus, Georgia on Highway 520. We just passed through a Tornado Warning and are on a Tornado Watch until 11PM tonight. Not raining right now............. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The one I bought was a "rental" with almost 100 hours. After the "rental" discount and trade allowance for my Ford 3000 and a weathered 1953 8N (not running), I got the M4900 4wd, LA1062-57R Quick Attach Loader and Woods BB72 Rotary Cutter for $18,610 (plus tax and insurance). I had been quoted from 19,000 to 19,500 just for the M4900 4wd (new-zero hours) from several dealers. Although I don't plan on paying that long, I got 72 month financing at 4.9 thru Kubota. They also offered 0 per cent for 24 or 36 months, 2.9 for 48 months, and 4.9 for 60 and 72 months.

Of course this price was reached after my wife (my negotiator) got thru wheeling-and-dealing. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

During my hunt I visited with 4 Kubota dealers and called another. I felt welcomed at every dealership. Some did not have just what I was looking for. At no time did I feel any pressure to purchase something off their lot. The dealer I finally bought from worked very hard to settle our deal. I WILL be back to see him and will recommend him to anyone interested in Kubotas (also a Case and MF dealer--big farm country)
