I have a 2004 LT1018 Briggs and noticed the 2005 model is now a LT1042 with only the Kohler engine. I don't mind the Briggs engine but I did like that the 2005 had a deck clean fitting. Could this be added to my L1018. How does it work? Also, if anybody that has a 1000 series is interested, Lowes has the front bumper kit (OEM 190-672) for $40.00. Everywhere else I checked wanted at least $90.00 for it. Thanks

The part numbers for the deck clean fitting assy are:

721-04041 Coupler, Hose
737-04003B Port, Water
736-0760 Washer, Lock
712-0641 Nut, Hex M16-1.5

From the diagram, it looks like a std round hole. I don't have dimensions on how to locate the hole but can measure my deck to approximate.

Which Lowes did you find the Front Bumper Kit (OEM 190-672) for $40.00? I can't find it at my Lowes (out of stock). I'm trying to order it online.

Thanks,
Adam

The Deck cleaning Jet works as follows:

"Your tractor's deck is equipped with a water port on its surface as part of its deck wash system. Use the SmartJet to rinse grass clippings from the deck's underside and prevent buildup of corrosive chemicals Complete the following steps AFTER EACH MOWING:
1) Drive tractor to a level, clear spot on your lawn, near enough to a water sillcock (spigot) for your garden hose to rach.
IMPORTANT: Make certain the tractor's discharge cute is directed AWAY from your house, garage, parked cars, etc.
2) Disengage the PTO (Blade Engage), move the shift lever into the neutral position, set the parking brake, and stop the engine.
3) Thread the hose coupler (packaged with your tractor's Operator's Manual) onto the end of your garden hose.
4) Attach the hose coupler to the water port on your deck's surface.
5) Turn on water on.
6) While sitting in the operator's position on the tractor, re-start the engine and place the throttle lever in the FAST (rabbit) position.
7) Move the tractor's PTO (Blade Engage) into the ON position.
8) Remain in the operator's position. with the cutting deck engaged for a minimum ot two minutes allowing underside of the cutting deck to thoroughly rinse.
9) Move the tractor's PTO (Blade Engage) into the OFF position.
10) Turn the ignition key to the STOP position to turn the tractor's engine off.
11) Turn water off and detach the hose coupler from the water port on your decks surface.
12) Repeat step 4 thru 11 on the opposite side of the cutting deck.

Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Adam

Thanks for the part numbers. If you could get me an approximate on the location of the fitting, that would be great. I got my front bumper kit from the Parham Road Lowes in Richmond, Virginia. They had 2 left when I bought mine a few weeks ago. Thanks again,
Chris

I went to my local dealer's open house today and saw the 2005 models with the deck clean hose fitting. I asked the owner about retrofitting it to my 2004 3235 54 inch deck. He said it could be done but he wasn't that much in favor of introducing water to the underside of the deck. I kind of agree with him from my own experience. I had a 1978 Cub Cadet 1450 with 44 inch deck. I never rinsed the deck underneath but scraped the dead grass from the deck with a putty knife everytime I greased it. The deck lasted 18 years before rusting out. I bought a new shell and started rinsing it underneath after every cutting. When I traded in the mower 8 years later the deck already had rusted through in a couple spots. Maybe it just wasn't as good as the original (it looked as sturdy) or else the frequent water washing accelerated the rusting. I rinsed my 54 inch deck once last season and didn't experience the grass buildup of the old one.

The deck jet according to the Preferred Cub Cadet dealer for the LT 1042 can be installed by them for around $15.00 if they perform the work, or it can be done by you very easily. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know im kinda late on this thread, my dad has a Snapper tractor mower lt16 with a 48"deck, its 20 years old wth no rust at all. The deck is as solid as the day dad brought it home from the dealer, dad kept it in our fully inclosed carport when he wasnt using it, and he also took a paintbrush and coated the underside of the deck with diesel fuel. He is still using that mower to this day, take a plastic putty knife and scrape the grass off of it every so often in the summer and put a light coat of diesel on it and when fall arrives take the deck wash the underside with water and make sure all the grass is gone useing your plastic putty knife and also use a hand brush like the ones you use on car tires to get the bits of grass loose, when its all clean under the deck coat it with the diesel and store it in a dry shed for the winter and it will last you for a lifetime. Im not kidding people that see dads old lt16 are like how do you keep the deck from rusting, when he tells them their like hmmm im gonna do that. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
